You've clearly never worked a min wage job before... Hours can be just as bad in order to get a living wage, co-workers can be flakey af since they don't get paid enough to care or they have other jobs they need to balance in order to make rent (see first point), and the drama, politics, and back stabbing is universal in the world - not just at your white collar office. Count your blessings and save your paycheck. Retirement is your only escape.
So true!!! Even working part time when i was in school was extremely stressful and mentally exhausting.
Being a waiter was the hardest job I’ve ever had. Consulting, sales, and tech have nothing on it.
I've had only ever had nightmares about work with one job- waiter at a country club. No other job, no matter how stressful or hours intensive, comes close.

There is probably something in the middle that will suit you. An 80k or 120k job that is 9-5, low stress etc. Calculate what money you need to live off of and be comfortable then find a low stress, low hour job that meets that salary.
Some corporate function at a utility company 😍
All the infrastructure is laid so you really just need to make sure it doesn’t stop working. And if it does, wasn’t your fault lol

I can tell you’ve never worked in the service industry in your life.
In case there was a shred of doubt, you ABSOLUTELY deal with all of those things working shitty minimum wage jobs. And they’re often brutal on your body.
You need some perspective.

Totally agree. My big law job is cushy af in comparison to working in retail. Much more client pressure, flaky colleagues, having to stand up all day and get treated like crap, no bargaining power whatsoever as you can be replaced by almost anyone, plus constantly broke af.
OP give it a shot part time. It will make you grateful for your current job.
Maybe you really just need a way to give back to the community… try finding a place you could see yourself volunteering!
This one right here is gold! In addition to my big tech job, I’m a volunteer firefighter. I get to help people, meet them on the worst day of their lives, see everything society has to offer, and get to hang out with cool other likeminded “brothers and sisters” - sometimes it really is a second family. And then I get to go back to my 6-digit salary big tech job where I sit in front of a desk all day while others are making a fraction as career firefighters. Gives you some perspective. If you’re interested: almost all Volly FDs in the U.S. are understaffed. Talk to your local crew; they’d probably love to have you onboard!
Grass is always greener on the other side. You can take a min wave job on the weekend and try it out. You’ll find a new set of problems. People will disrespect you due to your job position (ie cashier) and will believe they’re above you. You might find it difficult to stomach that esp from where you came from.
You’ll deal with “dumb” or “uneducated” managers, unreliable coworkers, lack of lunch breaks or personal breaks. You might have to be on your feet for 8 hrs with no medical care or insurance benefits.
The fact that you think a minimum wage job isn’t going to have the exact same issues (aside from a presentation) goes to show how out of touch making 300k has made you.
🙄

lol you’d just be stressed and miserable working 40-60 hours and still be unable to pay your bills
Have to lower the bills. That's all. Watch the documentary Minimalism
PLEASE quit your job at Apple, work food service for 6 months if you can last, and then report back to us all.
You are so brave ❤️
Clearly you’ve never worked a fast food drive thru at dinner rush. I’m taking a cushy WFH corporate job over that 10 times outta 10.
You make the stress. Just do what you do and dont worry about it. If its bad and you get fired, no big deal. You will find something else. Stress is stupid
Easier said than done but I agree. If one can master this, they’re golden.

I had this thought and so I took a min wage job on weekends for about a year. Corp life didn’t seem so bad afterwards. Pros and cons to both but at least your high paying job affords you the ability to do and experience certain things that a min wage job cannot.
That's actually a good idea to test how you'd do without committing fully to it
You’ve never worked a minimum wage job lol.
And it shows.

This is weird. Working minimum wage will never be fulfilling or “happy” if youre actually working for a check. Theres back stabbing and shitty environments even more so in minwage jobs. In min wage environments youre dealing with all of that and desperation. The national min wage is like $7 an hour. Who is happy living off that.

I had to deal with peers backstabbing, peers randomly not showing up and I do double work, long hours, and angry customers in my min wage job 🥸, at least I make more money now
When you think a post is satire, but then realize it isn’t. Damn.
The term is nerve wracking. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Wanna trade jobs?

One of the unforseen benefits of working crap jobs as a teenager was to not be naive to xl consider something like this
We have a joke in the office where we all want to quit our stressful ass jobs and get a job caring for the plants in the office. Those folks listen to podcasts all day, pull their cart of supplies, wipe the dust off of leaves, water the plants, not have to deal with other people’s bullshit, etc. You’d live forever thanks to no stress and an active life, but not be able to afford to retire.
