Marsh & McLennan I am moving 2 hours from my office. My manager says i have to come 2 days to office. When i come to the office its only me and couple of other people. No one seems to care about coming to office. When i asked manager if i can work remote i was told that its for my career development. Can you guys tell in Canada which companies are offering remote opportunities?

If I could expense the Uber Eats bill it would be like getting a bonus.
We’ve been told it’s not a cost / policy thing but (at least in NYC) there’s a tax reason we can’t expense dinners at home. No idea if that’s just BS to lower bills but at my V20 you can’t expense dinners while WFH regardless of how late you’re working. Tax lawyers WYA? Is this legit?
If a firm were to income update attorneys for free meals provided then it wouldn’t be an issue (only an issue for the attorneys who don’t want to foot the tax bill for the increase in taxable income, which is still less than the full cost of the meal). The rub is the ability to provide free meals without income updating employees income.

You can try but do people not buy food at home?
I think it’s more for time. I don’t have time to actually cook myself a meal because of the work hours so I end up buying meals.
I didn’t get “yelled at,” but my firm denied the requests and the head of the office told me to stop. Just check what your firm policy is.
Just the fact that I’m home doesn’t make dinner automatically out of thin air…! Still billing like 4-5 hours in the evebing
Ive heard of some firms changing their policy to not allow them unless you’re at the office.
My firm never allowed expensing dinners while work from home. Really disincentivizes working those 20 hours days since I sometimes literally starve…

If you have to ask, the answer is yes.
As much as I have wanted to (how, pray tell, am I supposed to procure non-junk food and cook it when work doesn’t stop?) the firm seems to be maintaining a strong position on this one. I and others have raised it with partners, affinity groups and the associate life committee to no avail.
It depends on your firm’s policies.
