Not really. You sell the funds in the old one and buy in the new one. You'll be out of the market for a few days or so which isn't a big deal.
You take the equity/loss with you! You would be out of the market for as long as it takes for the old firm to cut you a check, mail it, and then deposit into new plan (7-10 days?).
One way to reduce the amount of time is to rollover to an IRA, but I don’t know enough about situation to say that dogmatically.
You would lose any unvested employer contributions. The way to minimize that is to stay long enough to vest.
