Yuhhh

Depends on the company policy but usually it’s just the normal paycheck gets added to 401k and the PTO is not

When people talk about savings, do they mean including 401k (with it without the match) or is it only what’s additional on top of 401k which is assumed to be maxed out? I ask because I hear people saving 30-40k and im wondering if that’s ~20k in 401k and 20k otherwise.

Anyone know of non-consulting companies with good PTO benefits right off the bat? I currently get 5 weeks, but most companies seem to be at 2-3 weeks, with opp to earn more with 5-10 years of service.

How much of a stigma do you think ADHD meds or other prescribed drugs have? I'm not asking about morals or ethics. I fully believe in and am supportive of mental healthcare as well as other healthcare. I'm just wondering real world practical negatives of prescribed meds. Have any of you experienced issues? Do you wish you could get off of them? Context is that I'm an adult male that has made it so far without them. But I started to realize that I may have ADHD a couple of years ago.

Hi everyone! I am working with my HR to improve our maternity/paternity leave policy. Currently I only get 2 weeks fully paid and then an additional 8-12 weeks at 60% pay (short term disability). I need some examples of companies with less than 100 employees and what your maternity/paternity policy is. Please include company name! Thanks!!!

What's the etiquette around reminders about pre-Thanksgiving emails/tasks/etc? On one hand, I don't want to be the guy who emails people a reminder at 8am on the Monday after the holiday weekend as if they weren't busy, but on the other hand, the people had 1-3 business days (after considering PTO and holiday time, because the tasks are from the 19th and 22nd) to handle or reply, and they have not yet.

New/pivoting into HR! 👋 Currently working as a TA Coord with a little entry level work in HR Ops prior to this. Is there a SHRM link, reliable test, or method of shadowing the various parts of HR that will provide a sample of the work, thinking, and day to day experience of each group? I didn’t go to school for HR and therefore haven’t had the opportunity to sample HR Ops. vs. TA vs. Comp vs. Benefits vs. Payroll, etc. I know work experience is the best barometer, but what can supplement this?

Australia’s health department stated borders will most likely not open to international travelers at all this year and would most likely still require 2 weeks quarantine when they do next year. This was my one vacation I had planned right when covid hit and I was really hoping they’d open with vaccines so I could go in October, even March next year but even that seems an unlikely time to have a normal trip 🥺 i just really miss international travel

Hey all! Currently live in DC and thinking about moving to either: Los Angeles, Austin, Seattle, or stay in DC. Where would you move/live considering: cost of living, housing prices, and job market. I feel like LA has a rough job market in terms of competitiveness of applications compared to DC/Austin but benefits elsewhere. Feel free to share anything else I should know! Thanks!

Would you leave before busy season if you get an offer in December before the holiday break or would you negotiate your start date to try to stay through the busy season (6 weeks) due to staff shortages? I feel like I’m fucking my team over but also am so over audit and all the hours/work they’re giving me due to staff shortages.

How much money do you have left over after you pay all of your expenses and tax? After taxes and rent, healthcare, 401k, and food, I have about 12-14k left over at the end of the year. Is this low? Should I be saving more?

What’s the parental leave policy at your firm? Maternity vs paternity? Is two weeks paternity leave pretty standard?

Anyone know if you can withdraw your pension after you leave the firm? I understand, tax consequences. But I'm wondering if and how to do it.

EY Parental leave question: how many weeks were you actually out? When I took my leave 3 years ago, I counted total of 21 weeks of leave. That’s including one firm winter holiday week. I remember I initially thought I would be back after 16 weeks, but then in the middle of my time off I got an email from Leave Team with the breakdown and it actually was 21 weeks. Can someone who took leave recently tell me the actual number of weeks?

Took 3 weeks of PTO... am I supposed to still reply to emails? Or should I be setting boundaries and not responding until I get back? Feeling a bit guilty a week into it 😰

How hard is it to go in-house once you're a partner? I'm up for evaluation this winter at a smaller BigLaw firm, but I'm questioning whether that's the route I want to go long term. There are plenty of remote jobs in my practice area (patents/IP, computer science focus). Making matters more difficult is that my wife and I will be starting IVF in Jan., and I know parental leave/benefits don't kick in for a bit. If I go through the shareholder process, will it be hard to go in-house?
