Will lateraling from v10 NY to v100s change my junior corp hours? Looking for less intense deals if possible

Maybe a little...but things are super busy across the board now so there’s a chance the hours are similar

It may be a bit less intense, but you will still run into late nights, weekends, and last-minute fire drills. And for a lot less pay, likely.

Yes, it will be better. But instead of thinking along Vault rankings, think about the type of corporate. There's a spectrum from fund formation to PE M&A in terms of how bad things are. You don't have to prove that you are a hardass by killing yourself. Think about pivoting a smidge to a practice area that's still interesting but not all-encompassing.

To add to this comment, odds are corporate will be stressful no matter where you are. I started in corporate at a small firm in a small market and worked crazy hours. Lateraled to biglaw, switched to real estate, and I'm working better hours than I was at a 30-lawyer firm no one has ever heard of.

Get out of corp if you want something less intense

I remember when I first started working on my thesis project. My adviser asked me to get some funding for it, but he didn't give me any advice about how to do that. He just told me that if I wanted money for my project, I'd have to go through some kind of committee process and submit an application for funding from them. Sure enough, after weeks of writing applications and waiting around for responses from the committee members (who were always too busy), I eventually got approved for funding!

Hi all,

I just came to realise
Deutsche Bank has a fixed rule of max 30 to 35 % hike on fixed component and remaining 10 to 15% variable i.e. total 50% max hike you can ask for no matter how good, skilled you are.

Is it true?

Been having trouble moving on since girlfriend ended relationship 3 weeks ago after 2+ years of dating. Before ending it she came over 3 weeks prior to basically give me a chance to work things out and we had a good discussion but then I went back into our routine and didn’t really fight for it or have serious follow up convos that we needed. Now I just have so many regrets that I let her go. I know we still love each other and left on “good” terms but can’t forgive myself for my lack of action.

I’m really intrigued by healthcare consulting and would love to learn more about Canadian opportunities for that if anyone is willing to chat! I have over 5 years of experience working in community healthcare (mainly administrative roles). I also have a BSc (Hons) Neuroscience. Just looking for advice on where to start! TIA :)

Anyone else just sitting around waiting for the ax to drop? I'm a soon to be 2nd year corporate associate who has seen work completely dry up. Aside from letting people know I'm available and doing pro-bono/CLE, it's starting to feel like a serious "covidcation" leading to termination.

Is it okay that I’ve been a slow junior as we’re hours away from closing? I’m trying to be proactive and available to cross things off the list but I’m SLOW: takes me long enough that they do it themselves (even though this wasn’t an issue earlier in the deal) and even on quick tasks or emails, they respond to it before I can click send. There’s also so much about closing that I don’t understand and I feel like I’m bothering the higher-ups on the team whenever I ask. *end anxiety post*
