As someone who is not from the UK but lives here, seems like the focus of the COVID conversations boils down to ‘protecting the NHS.’ Shouldn’t the NHS be protecting us though? Sick of lockdowns and there doesn’t seem to be a significant difference in long-term outcome anyway. I feel that we need to be given a risk rating based on certain factors and those in lower risk categories should be allowed to go about their lives and run the economy as usual. Tier 5 sounds awful - I oppose it. Thoughts?
Today my boss demanded that I do a trial with him in 3 weeks on a case I know nothing about. I’m a second year lawyer and with covid have never done a trial. I’m told this is the way of a trial lawyer’s life. I feel like it’s a total lack of respect of me and what I have going on as well as a function of them being chronically understaffed. Any thoughts or advice? I’m thinking of jumping ship.

What type of self help strategies do individuals actually find helpful when you feel burn out or stuck in a rut? Any books, apps, meditation, podcasts, etc, others find helpful? I've done therapy and it has definitely helped this past year with covid and a marriage separation, starting to feel like I'm making progress and want to keep up the momentum. Looking to see what type of self help others find actually beneficial and would love to use that to help others stuck in burn out too

Advice for networking during Covid?
I interviewed with the hiring manager on Monday and she really liked me and I liked her. On Tuesday I interviewed with the VP who is my bosses boss. That same day, I interviewed with the CMO. I was very tired at that point since it was 8:30 pm and then had been interviewing all day with this company and several others. The thing that threw me off was that the CMO seemed cold and she wouldn’t take off her her COVID mask. Not sure why since she was the only one in the room. Is this a red flag?
What do you all do to make non-professional / personal connections? Particularly with the Coronavirus, and being in domestic relations, I wake up, go to work, work out, go home. So outside of law, my interactions with people are only at the gym given that my area is draining— particularly at the moment. Probably a good thing for now; but if we take coronavirus out of the equation, I’m interested what others in the community do to develop personal connections.
Know things are still developing, but does anyone know how covid-19 will affect firms hiring? had a good conversation with a recruiter and haven’t heard back within the timeframe they stated, and am -

Older workers and COVID unemployment... bogus firings and more. IBM is called out specifically here. The EEOC found that IBM engaged in “systematic” discrimination against older workers and there’s an open class action lawsuit. The stories in this video are appalling. If you are young, pay attention. You may be older one day - if you’re lucky. This can eventually come around to you. https://youtu.be/sjr27_K8SWc
If Biden was President this year, he would not have banned travel from China in January (self-admittedly), which would have likely resulted in many more deaths from COVID-19. That is just an inconvenient truth for the Democrats.
Help! One of my roommates can’t work from home because her job won’t allow it. I’m worried that she’ll get coronavirus and transmit it to me and my other roommates. What do I do?

We don't have formal perf reviews like most people seem to have at their company and it's hard for me to have evidence to prove that I should be getting a raise. Anyone have advice about what would work? And I think it might be good just for me to know for my own sake what my manager thinks.

Anyone else having serious COVID fatigue? We have been extremely cautious since the beginning of the pandemic in order to protect our toddler and my at-risk mother. We pulled our kid out of daycare (my mom has taken over childcare), still won’t dine inside, still work from home, have not been on a plane since 2019, and are very cautious about who we interact with. Yet, when I see countless friends traveling overseas acting like the pandemic never happened and is not ongoing, I can’t help but

After John Oliver's statement on access to mental health services, I'm curious to see others' takes. Is our mental healthcare system broken? Is it inaccessible? With so many digital counseling services and the breaking down of -some- stigmas around mental health, I feel like we have done better. People just need to make the decision to seek help.

I been at my job for three year now, for a while now I been applying for other positions within my job because I want to leave my department. I don’t feel value and appreciated. They would rather hired a new manager than promote within. I have had interviewed in the past and recently but I am told to wait in HR for the final step but never heard from there whether they approved my transfer or not. Plus I am beginning to think my manager holding me back from transferring.
