Not gunna lie I agree with you OP. I feel bad they lost their jobs, but they were compensated very well for a long time.
And yeah, Zuckerberg’s business practices have been in an ethical grey area (at best) for awhile now.
I feel bad whenever people lose their job, but I often feel like people use the situation to make themselves look good, and that’s what annoys me. It’s a lot of sympathy theater for a few LinkedIn likes
@Strat Director a wise man once said if you do something nice and more than 2 people know about it, you did it for the wrong reason
Strong agree. Meta is a huge reason our democracy is unhealthy and families are totally polarized. Zero sympathy, zero interest in helping anyone who worked there find another job.
Yeah I didn’t say super ethical :-)
I am with you OP. Like, can we get LinkedIn back to posts about opportunities available instead of all the "I'm here to help but not really" posts.
Especially those that went to work there during and after the congress debacle. Like cmon you went with your eyes wide open
A) We’re not posting for your sympathy. We’re posting to get new job leads because we know how social works. So it’s ok.
B) having something absolutely amazing with the perks you referred to come to an end is a lot sadder and crushing than having a contract gig end at Wunderman. ALOT sadder. I have had both.
Ha wunderman
I also agree although feel SLIGHTLY more sympathetic towards them than the Twitter folks who had months to get out once they knew Elon Musk was buying. What did they think was going to happen?
Really weird take. Did you miss Elon trying to sue to get out of the deal he made in a tweet and then last minute changing his mind?
Said this in another thread, FB still has billions in profits, just as many other corporations do. Sure they all change their logos to rainbows and pretend to care about your identity politics with putting gays and minorities in their ads, but at the end of the day we are all expendable and money is king.
Facebook, like others, are huge campaign donors to candidates you obsess about, yet pass no legislation to actually mitigate moves like this.
I used to be a fan of capitalism and the free market, but no longer. They are all just milking us to get rich.

We don't know what departments got let go but 11,000 is a lot.
Out of the 11,000, let's remember some of them could well be set for life or have a very soft landing.
And there are skilled contractors who don't have any benefits and this is just another job they'll move on from. I'd argue the bulk of tech employees are these people who weren't "elite" enough to enjoy the stocks and benefits but "good enough" to do the work for those who do have the benefits.
Then there are those who need counselling because of the shit Facebook exposed them to when moderating content. Gig workers who are probably underpaid in places outside of America and our bubble.
Guess who are the ones who have the access and privilege to cry about it on LinkedIn and are able to network, bounce back in a month or so or even take a break.
I'll remember their paychecks, perks, benefits cost "democracy" and the writing was on the wall years ago when their boss had to face the music.
If big oil laid off 11,000, what would be the reaction?
Completely agree. Because of meta I have to explain to my parents that they’ve been brainwashed. All meta platforms suck now and i was recruited by them several times and no amount of money would have compelled me to interview.

I'm very sympathetic. Working at Meta is amazing. These people just lost the best job they will ever have or ever likely to have.
Rising Star
It would be naive and embarrassing to take a huge pay cut and lose all your perks to work much harder and longer hours at an agency.
They get an insane severance package. They should take the rest of the year off and chill.
Fb sucks and is a punchline. Bummer for those people no longer employed there but cmon
You’re not wrong
This week it’ll be the 10K about to be let go by Amazon.
Ahhh yes, another company that enjoyed bloated profits during the shutdown. Now the stock dipped to more reasonable levels, and whilst still enjoying billions in profit, they will layoff thousands to make the “shareholders” happy.
Chappelles SNL monologue hit the mail on the head of why trump was so popular: he exposed politicians. The system is rigged for the rich and those politicians you love won’t change anything that will negatively impact their rich donors and friends.
