Will the SWE demand/salary bubble burst in due time? I’m bad at it/can’t learn it, but I’m annoyed at the culture of the “tech bros” and the pay gaps can be huge...

You’re mad that the people who allow the products to actually exist get paid more? Engineering benefits from increasing scale of impact without necessarily putting in more hours as you get more senior Tech salaries are high because there isn’t enough quality talent (people who truly put in the time and effort to learn it) to meet the demand. That’s why consulting hires so many tech consultants to help companies that have such poor cultures they would never be able to bring on board the people necessary to make digital transformation happen. It’s because almost every company has some form of tech they’re trying to adopt (tech means data and everyone needs better data), so the competition for talent doesn’t come only from pure tech companies

Are banker bonuses ever going to come down? The world is quite literally built of SWE now so the top firms command the highest rates. On average though, SWE are relatively average, your view is probably inflated by FANG comp packages for the best engineers.

Thank you!

Salaries seem pretty appropriate to me.... they literally keep the whole product running.

No. Demand definitely won’t go down as there is a huge shortage of quality engineers at the senior levels, and pay will continue to go up to get the best talent

Yea yea yea boi, get back to work.
