Will WFH make consulting a less appealing industry? (No airline and hotel points, expense accounts, etc)

Very much so. I chose this life for the travel.

All the BS and none of the perks? I'd say so

It does for me

Yea for sure, I like my nice dinners and points. All that work versus the pay doesn’t seem all that enticing.

like

Yes. Not just the travel but the human interaction and variety. Overall I’m ambivalent about travel and sleepless nights but I like not just the perks but the change in work locations and face-to-face interactions.

I do think consulting is one of the few industries that recognize that it's harder when done remotely.

100%. part of the reason I chose consulting is that while I’m still in my 20’s I can travel for business but also accumulate points so that I can do a lot of traveling Of my choice for basically nothing. Nothing better than a business class ticket and 5 star resort for nothing out of pocket.

like

Agree, I chose this so I wouldnt be confined to the same desk and chair every single day and to have variety while im in my 20s and can barely sit still.

It will probably accelerate the account focused and regional models

like

To add, I hope this is a temporary thing. BD is much harder, training is harder, more meetings are required

like

Consulting or not, I have no desire to ever fully work from home. I cannot wait to get back to the office

like

Yes. Now I have zero reasons to stay at Capgemini 😂

Think there will be some travel projects obviously but those might be more sought after.

I’m in a small-ish office. managing partner of my office & my practice group leader said I could work from home some days per week. Most people seem fine with it except one partner (who has most of the work to give out). Should I stick to my guns and continue to work from home on my days or should I give in to this partners’ passive aggressive side comments generally about people “not actually working” even though I’ve maintained my hours and have gotten every assignment done and done well?

Not comp related but a question on references: I’ve only had 2 direct managers, current one is nice but I can’t let him know I’m interviewing. Previous one was a bully and I made clear that I cut contact with him when I left (he later had to contact me for non-essential work related stuff but I declined to talk). I have other references I could use, but want to prep for situation when employers ask “why can’t we talk to your previous manager.” Thanks!

Will there be a salary bubble like the housing bubble? Hearing how much people with 2-7 yrs experience are getting offered to move companies is blowing my mind. At some point this is not going to be sustainable and salaries will drop back down to reality. However, I am concerned that all of those folks with inflated salaries will get in situations they can’t support after the correction. Then what happens?
