Do you feel safe? It depends on your performance and role. And performance means how much money you bring to the company. Not how good you actually do your job…

Low performers are never safe in consulting

Nah. Already planning to buy into a buddies liquor store with his dad. Backed by Coors as they were former distributors, so it’s solid. I’m still in a part of the country where liquor stores are here to stay. Wine and liquor sales only. Beer is like 2% of the business.

No one is “safe” just prepare and do the best you can and try not to worry about things you cannot control (I know I know easier said than done)

But posts like these serve no purpose as what particular answer you’re looking for.

If someone says “yes we are safe”- how can your verify it first, second how you know your particular group is safe

If someone says “no you’re not safe” again how can you verify it and second if it is verified it’s nothing you can control

This serves no purpose other than for people to place “theories” and if they are correct nothing we can do. Just have to prepare yourself and do the best we can

like

One might not be one of the strong performers that are safer than most if they were to think "yes."

like

Lol what. You said if you think you’re safe, you may not actually be one of the strong performers that are safer than most. I’m agreeing but saying there are others saying yes that have a better reason to

Sometimes I forget how big of a percentage of people entered the workforce post-2009 and have never seen an actual recession. I lived through both the GFC and the Dotcom implosion, buckle up your seatbelts people.

like

I think there were parts of the country that didn't even feel the dotcom bubble. The GFC was a brutal 5 years in the U.S. - even longer elsewhere. :-(

There is no such thing as “safe”. It’s an illusion.

I think it comes down to what kind of contracts are in place. Getting new business will be difficult; however, existing contracts must be honored.

Yes. Timmy will do another capital call before there are mass layoffs

Nah. If businesses are cutting cost to free up cash, then we are part of their variable expense that they can trim.

If clients are suffering then we will suffer too

It’s a domino effect and better to be prepared for the worst

No one is ever safe

Yes. Professional services was the second largest growth area in the economy last month

It’s hard to be motivated when rounds of layoffs happen and you see all your friends leave. But one thing that’s gotten me through all of this is working out. And when I say workout I mean the most pathetic, sad, barely completed beginner-level cardio dance routines. I’ve somehow forced myself to move while on lockdown and it’s somehow forced me to feel better. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are: get up and move even if you don’t finish or end up going on a walk. Pls take care of yourself❤️

I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. I’m very interested in the opportunity but also don’t want to make a poor financial decision early in my career. Thank you for your time!

A nice comfortable office chair.

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest

I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.

AMA.
