Wait til OP finds out about the right wing extremists that actually have power in Germany, the bias against immigrants due to their higher proportion of crime, and the contracting economy.
And we all know what German nationals do when their economy doesn’t do too well...and it usually doesn’t bode well for non nationals. Unlike what CNN tells you, European countries aren’t all paradise.
Enjoy Deutschland, make a follow up post when you come fleeing back.
With all the challenges with America, this is still the country I want to be in. I am an immigrant; US citizen now.
Most of the rhetoric you hear is simply politics; country is divided for sure, but it’s politically motivated. Deep down, majority of the Americans are not racists. With social media it is hard to avoid and you hear every opinion, but don’t think the grass is greener elsewhere. There are other problems elsewhere. This too will pass.
Good luck to you. Maybe you find your happiness and peace.

You don’t know how good you have it...American media is sensationalist about all these problems but many other places are just as bad if not worse
Those stats are in the article as well...did you read it?

I’m moving to Germany! There’s tons of great countries in the world. I’m black, but my mom is German so it makes the whole process so much easier.
Plus, no reason to stay in America and have children on a sinking ship.
Wishing you all the best. I lived in Germany for a few months after graduating and decided it wasn’t for me, later tried US and been here for a few years. In my home country I had negative biases because I was an unpopular category of immigrant, but there aren’t many of us in USA and it’s so nice not to have that negative behavior here. Now I’m just a slightly intriguing unusual immigrant. Much better! Has made a huge difference. Happy I don’t have to be stuck in US though, I agree with your original post...
i think it’s hilarious that people say “if you don’t like how america works then why don’t you LEAVE! hmph!” and then when skilled people like OP actually leave for other countries and opportunities, those same people mock them for leaving. OP good luck in Germany!
How do you know they are the same people?

No, good bye... enjoy your life abroad!
Please do not come back should your experience abroad does not turn out the way you wanted!

I’m sure I’ll be struggling to get by in Germany...

Don’t give up on America. There will always be issues but we are who we are because we don’t give up. I would say contribute. Make the environment around you exactly how you want it to be and if everyone does the same to weed out the inequalities at a local level we won’t have these issues at a higher level. Play your part.

Thank you D3.
Enjoy the experience, I hope you find what you are looking for in Germany. I’ve worked in Germany and Switzerland, also dual citizen and while the places are great, nothing beats the US. Especially in terms of opportunity and diversity.

Go to Somalia. Perfect example of an ideal country.
Yup....because those are the two options....USA...or Somalia....

I’ve been looking into Germany and the Netherlands. I’m expecting Biden to win the election, and that probably buys us a few more years, but our republic is not in great shape.
In the last few years, we’ve blown past a lot of the warning signs on the road to fascism, and there are a lot of cultists eager to take us there.
Good luck, OP! Germany is the leader of the West for now, but I hope the US reclaims that role in the future.
Pro
Yup, major realignments coming.
Lots of hard questions in front of us and no one will have answers without a lot of hard work and dialogue. Too bad the extremes don’t want to hear anything except their own point of view reflected back at them.
For everyone 1 person leaving, a 100 (or more) want to come
Hope it turns out well OP! Seems like you are getting hate on here but that is just ppl being too prideful. The media definitely makes it seem like it’s worse than it really is here I’d say but it hasn’t been great lately.
Sometimes things have to get messy before they get better and I feel as if America will began to turn a new page sooner than some think so make sure you always have a chance to come back
“Germany is the leader of the west” 😂🤣😂😂😂

That said, CCP is attempting to carry on the West’s legacy of colonialism, albeit through largely economic and other soft power means.
Go ahead. You’ll be back!
Damn, y'all are some salty people. Good on you, OP! You're actually taking the advice people love to spout and you're GTFO!
OP, I'm happy for you. If it's not too much too ask, let me/us know how it goes. I may be a few months behind you
I think many of you may be missing a bit of what OP is saying. The problem we’re having is not simply that “some people today are racist”.
A large part of the problem is that this country is built on a network of institutions and systems that were themselves designed to achieve racist ends and whose historical purpose/impacts has/have not been addressed.
E.g., The official government policy of redlining is still impacting black Americans today ( https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2018/03/28/redlining-was-banned-50-years-ago-its-still-hurting-minorities-today/) />
And beyond historical wrongs you have the ones that are being perpetrated today that, for some reason, a controlling share of the country has chosen to ignore or justify.
E.g., https://www.baltimoresun.com/maryland/baltimore-city/bs-md-ci-doj-report-20160809-story.html
E.g., https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/04/politics/black-prosecutors-dc-gun-cases/index.html
E.g., https://www.reuters.com/article/us-wells-lending-settlement-idUSBRE86B0V220120712
E.g., [Insert the endless stream of officer involved killings* of unarmed black men (George Floyd) ,women (Breonna Taylor) , and CHILDREN (Tamir Rice — https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/News/12-year-son-tamir-rice-killed-police-im/story?id=71654873)]
So I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss OPs concerns as “simply politics”. At the end of the day these “politics” lead to “POLICIES” that systemically put black people [and other minorities] at a very real disadvantage in this country (in many cases regardless of whether or not a person works for a place like BCG; with the implied socioeconomic status)
*In my view murders
Why not go for a quick exchange/tour of duty. I just immigrated from China, so my expecysgions were pretty low on certain dimensions like freedom. I'm comfortable enough here but wouldn't mind another stint in EMEA should I get the chance.
Good for you, OP. It sounds like you're making the right decision for yourself and your future. Enjoy Germany.

From the NYC office? If so think I know who and best of luck with the move over 👌🏻

Lol, fair enough! Didn’t know there were that many black Germans in NAMR!
