I was on a highway for a few hours in Illinois yesterday. My thoughts exactly, but no, we have so many politics here it could never happen
It’s a great temporary work program by the government. Fingers crossed.
When things are a bit more under control we are going to need to figure out what to do with a lot of out of work people. Borrow while rates are this low and find big infrastructure projects. I’d prefer more green/sustainable actions rather than highways, but those take a little more imagination and planning. It probably makes sense to start w our highways and bridges, levies and dams.
After the trillion dollar relief program for covid, where would the money come from for a federal road repair initiative?
Same with the subway system in NYC. Good opportunity to 🧼 for once
In theory, sure. But given how much of the the 2008 stimulus was supposedly precisely for that purpose and given just how little of it actually happened, I'd guess that very little actual infrastructure work would happen.
There's also the admin burden and miles and miles of red tape to go through permitting, environmental review, etc.
Likely nothing major would happen in anything remotely close to a reasonable timeframe.
Agree. Though l I was also thinking of the advantages the reduced traffic offers if it happens sooner (safety, less disruption etc.)
