With the lateral market booming, what are the odds of a second year lit associate being able to lateral into a corporate practice somewhere? The only thing I like about lit is discovery and reviewing documents and transactional work seems more my speed.

If you want to DM me I can refer you. I’m no longer at JL- I’m at a transactional firm that pays Cravath.

Low unless you restart as a first year. We are desperate for people with transactional experience so don’t need a lot of training, not lit experience which is basically like hiring a first year and they already started.

I may be willing to take a class year hit to get out-I’m not going to lead with that but if it’s one of the final things standing in between me and a switch, then fine (I know that doesn’t address lack of experience/having to train)

Wow so many threads on this! Good luck!

I just searched and you’re right...and it doesn’t look good, oof. But thank you for the luck haha

After practicing law for 8 years, I’m ready to exit the practice altogether. I’ve wanted to do it for years, but never had the guts and, as we know, golden handcuffs are real. I’m a creative (screenwriter/director/graphic designer-dabbler), but have no clue what job I can do to make money while pursuing my passions. Is there a creative corporate role that can leverage legal experience (besides consulting)? No clue where to start. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What is it like to lateral out of big law, to a regional firm (~200 attys)? Pay is market, slightly lower billable target. I expect the work to be sophisticated but don’t know yet. WLB is supposed to be pretty good and heard that the firm doesn’t fire people. At what degree of distraction do you stop billing? I ask because it’s impossible to work at a peak level for an entire day. So how do you think about times when you are working but being **slow**? How does this translate into time lost in a typical day working? I know this is a function of how busy you are and the kind of work on your plate—but what is usual and unusual?

like

Leaving for a clerkship in two months (everyone at the firm knows). The cases I’m on right now have slowed to almost zero - do I ask around for more work? Not trying to burn bridges by slacking off too hard, but also know people probably don’t want to waste time adding me to a new case team
