With the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions that are now being placed by countries because of this, I was curious if companies should be doing anything to contribute to this. Does it make sense to cut ties with a Russian vendor or company that your company pays? What else can companies do? Especially the tech giants like meta, google, and Apple? What can they do to help? I’m very curious to hear people’s thoughts and also think about whether I should bring this up where I work.

From a strictly ethical standpoint, businesses do have an obligation to cut ties with countries/companies/groups that are hurting others.

Well, supposedly it's the government's thing. Private companies don't necessarily have a hand in government policies. It would be ideal to boycott Russia but I'm afraid of generalizing the take on all companies based there.

Too early to tell, I think they've been preparing for it for quite some time so I'm not sure cutting ties would have any effect. It might hurt less for Russia than for the company doing business in Russia.

If the company only has Russian clients then perhaps, it's not wise to cut off ties immediately and inflict self harm. But if Russian companies are the vendors and there are other competitors, then it should be an easy switch. Companies swap vendors and partnerships all the time. Not saying it's easy but very much a common part of business relationships.

Yes, cut ties. Make the Russian people understand they can’t continue supporting Putin. Check if your 1st tier vendors have their own connections to Russian companies too, and ask them to cut ties as well.

I dont agree. I work with a lot of russians. They dont support the war either.

Also, some of my friendliest and kindest friends are americans. Is it ok that their livelihoods be affected just because their country is the most war mongering and war profiteering country in the world?

like

Tbh, i dont know what the answer is. US is a war economy. It contributed a lot to the growth of their economy and to the luxuries americans enjoy.

Having said that, US also does a lot of business globally. So even though im not american, I do enjoy some of those money as my clients are americans.

These blood money flows around the world.

Hmm, where do you work right now?

I think it's definitely worth bringing up at work, but it all depends. Low level companies are often tied to these distributors, but I feel the larger companies have a moral responsibility to put that additional pressure on Putin.

You should cut the ties if possible.

If countries starts cutting ties with countries that starts war, then US would be the first on the list

People who work in banking, and especially in France, have you ever been badly treated by your colleagues with an attitude as if you’re not even worth a piece of sh** ?

I don’t know if it’s because people in the banks are like this or if it’s because french people are rude. But the way my colleagues behave (fortunately, just some of them, not all) would be considered extremely impolite and uneducated in Asia (where I’m from). Would love to hear some of your opinions about this!

Hi! I started at a new company 2 months ago and while I’m really enjoying my job so far, I’m having a hard time gauging whether or not I’m doing a “good job.” My role seems to be always evolving, which is fine and I actually enjoy being a support to the greater marketing team, but I feel like I need better defined targets to make sure I’m meeting expectations. Also, when I ask my boss what they’d like to see, I don’t ever get a clear answer. (Cont’d in comments)

I will be doing someheavy recruiting for Product Managers. Having a hard time with the existing team to persuade them that the uniqorns they are looking for dont exist. They are fixated that unless someone does not know to work agile or have tech specific experience they dont want to see them. Some of the questions also they have for candidates are an imitation of big corp companies like google, facebook etc. I am a big advocate on giving chances and trying to get through to them. Any ideas?
