I caught someone using notes during personal experience interview - shuffling pages, eye shifting, robotic answers were obvious. Told them to put the notes away and give me a second answer to the question. So they had to do double PEI because of stupidity! Warned the next interviewer to watch out for this.
In another interview, I caught someone typing to do math question. I’d said no calculators or excel at the start of the case. He failed outright because of that.
Don’t try to do something you wouldn’t do in person. We’re looking for it. You’re not an actor and if you get caught you put the interview in jeopardy. In this recruiting atmosphere, who can afford to jeopardize an interview?
Typing during math?! 😂 sheesh, that was bold
I’d recommend bullet points but only for emergency backup use if you’re drawing a blank. As someone who has been an interviewer for video interviews, make sure that any notes are right next to your video chat window (ie not on a separate monitor from your camera or somewhere where it’s clear you’re looking to another direction). And also make sure it’s big enough so you’re not squinting at the screen cause that’s also another giveaway.
Just did a virtual interview today. I always have the other person as my full screen because it’s really obvious when ur eyes shift around and move. However, I always have a pen in my hand and paper to take notes during the interview and if they ask me a challenging question, I ask to take a moment to think and look down at prewritten notes. They think I’m writing but rlly I’m reading to think about what to say
Very clever! That’s my go to tactic!
For me, I usually have a notepad nearby and I’ll take notes during the interview. This way, it’s a natural transition from paper to screen.

I’ve done the notetaking method as others mentioned or I had key points on a piece of paper and taped it right next to the camera so I would look in the same direction
