I spend way too much time planning team events. I don’t think it’s too hard for leaders to let me have more opportunity outside of my wheelhouse when I express the interest
Once, I explicitly asked for more technical work and was tasked to plan a client event as I watched a male in my class build tableau dashboards in front of me. The culmination of these small technical opportunities has led him to be known as the “digital guy” around the office, while my strong suit is still planning fun events

I work in tech consulting. I have a male counterpart of equal rank and workload. People on the project and sometimes on our team directly go to him instead of me on technical matters. At first, they didn’t even think to ask me or invite me in discussion unless I pushed my way in on the conversations. My male counterpart didn’t play nice at first and blocked my involvement. I then had to speak up about it to the entire team, thankfully he now redirects them to me where I should be involved like 80% of the time.
