Women who are not getting the Covid vaccine because they are afraid of infertility or the effect on pregnancy - do you mind sharing your reasons why? I’m genuinely curious what resources you have used to make your decision. For instance, my friend says there is an NYU study that shows it has effects on fertility, and I have no clue what she’s saying because I can’t find this study anywhere.

I’m concerned about the reported side effects to the CDC about changes in the menstrual cycle. I already have a messed up cycle with a history of ovarian cysts, so not touching this vaccine. Also, have had friends who worked at hospitals being advised not to get pregnant for 2 years after vaccine administration. I believe in science and I understand how the vaccine works but I’m frustrated at the ferocity of denials that it doesn’t effect women’s reproductive systems. We just don’t know for certain what the long term affects will be. I would rather wait it out until we have more data.

There’s absolutely no evidence that any of the vaccines affect fertility.

C2 - Great news! Thank you for sharing this.

It was debunked already - like MONTHS ago. (Also I’m like 99% sure this “NYU Study” doesn’t exist). The AAP and the Ob-Gyn associations are all recommending it now. I hope this insight helps you: https://www.henryford.com/blog/2021/04/fertility-rumor-covid-vaccine

Congratulations!!!!!

My response: aren’t you afraid of the effect of catching Covid on infertility or pregnancy? There’s similarly no data on if or how there are adverse effects on infertility from becoming infected, short or longer term. I understand there may be some data already available on the risks to an unborn baby if the mother contracts covid while pregnant, though I am not sure what/where to find that. We have seen some scary impacts of Covid to the heart and brain long term, what’s to say that we won’t uncover impacts to other functions including reproductivity?

There is actually an interesting article I read about women who had covid and how it impacted their menstrual cycle. Can’t win either way can we!? 😂

I did get J&J, but only because it's a more traditional vaccine. I didn't want to touch the mRNA ones with a 10ft pole for that reason. For me, it was the simple fact that they don't know what it can do to fertility. Even if it seems okay in the abstract, it's too soon to tell long term effects. It's the not knowing for me. I wasn't willing to take that chance on my future fertility. I'm not basing that on any paper that I read or conspiracy theory that I've heard, more of a rudimentary concern for rushing the scientific process. I'm glad for a vaccine for most people, but women in childbearing years..... nah

I had no idea that nail polish causes birth defects, but I'll certainly look into it now that you've said something. Thank you!

You can’t get pregnant if you die from covid first was my thinking as a person with fertility issues already - as I got my Pfizer shot.

I am in my 30s and just started trying to get pregnant. I had an appt for the vaccine and then cancelled last minute out of panic bc I heard rumors on this. I haven’t found anything to support it; but, admittedly, my fear of the unknown is outweighing my logic rn. Everyone else I know has gotten it and my return to office is in late July so I’ve been in a constant state of “wtf am I doing” 😫 My primary recommended it, but in response to my questions re infertility the response was, “at this time, there’s no evidence to support that at all.” The lawyer in me has been scrutinizing the inclusion of “at this time” incessantly. Am I being crazy? Maybe. I just want to get pregnant so I can take solace in getting the vaccine immediately after without concern, but who knows how soon that will be.

CA1 - Again this is from the standpoint of private medical information. If you want to go shouting your health information from the rooftops, be my guest. If you read my entire posts from the beginning, if ask me my status I will tell you, but I don’t go word vomiting it to anyone who is within a 6 foot distance. Also, you make the blatant assumption that I’m running around without a mask when appropriate. Vaccine shaming at its finest.

If you ask your friend for that study, I would love to read it if you share it here!

Based on her statement about the flu vaccine (which you know to be false), this friend clearly isn’t living in reality, so why are you placing any value on anything she said about the Covid vaccine?

I plan to get pregnant in the near future and I reluctantly got the vaccine. I’ve read the articles assuring people that it has no affect on fertility, but it does give me pause that they are also confirming that it has had clear effects on women’s menstrual cycles — those seem somewhat related — idk. I’m no scientist and I can’t pretend that I’ve done much research, but I understand other people’s hesitation.

It's on the adverse affects label for the vaccine. Manufacturers are immune if they show all risks and it's on there for all. You should be able to request it when getting the vaccine but sometimes they may not have it so you can pull from the manufacturer's website. I pulled it and I'm waiting for more data to come out for other risks so I can made a better decision. Everything is new but the more people get vaccinated, the more we can see what the risk is for x, y and z. I've seen reports/posts on women miscarrying after vaccinated but who knows the true cause. It's hard to say. I wish more people reported on VAERS but the reporting is very low historically. You could check there too but most adverse issues are for people 65 and older. I hope that helps.

I did not get the vaccine while pregnant because I followed medical advice. There haven’t been any long term studies (or any studies for that matter) on the effects of the vaccine on pregnant women and fetuses. I wasn’t about to make my baby a guinea pig. I will say this.... I did get the vaccine post partum. I am breastfeeding exclusively and my medical providers informed me it was safe to get while breastfeeding but a few days after I got the vaccine, I got a mega period. I have been bleeding now for 2 weeks and it hasn’t stopped.

That’s normal tho.

I'm an infertility patient and my RE encouraged me to get it.

Also was an infertility patient, 2.5 years and a miscarriage, got pregnant on four rounds of meds (have a 9 month old who I EBF + pumped extra post-vax antibody milk for!) and I asked my doctor who did my fertility tests/treatments and he said he is recommending it to all current fertility patients unless they have an allergy to something in it. Notes: I have asthma and got the Pfizer vax.

helpful

I had COVID in January, and am now pregnant. Not getting the vaccine while pregnant because there hasn’t been studies with pregnant women and this vaccine + my doctor recommended against it. I probably won’t get the vaccine after birth because I already have antibodies from getting the virus itself and because they simply don’t know the long term effects on fertility. The thing that scares me the most is that many women have messed up periods for several months after getting the vaccine - so I don’t believe that there’s “no chance” the vaccine can have long term effects on fertility!

like

Having been through multiple fertility treatments, including IVF, I got my vaccine the moment I could without hesitation, per my doctor’s suggestion.

I thought about this and got Pfizer. Ultimately with an mRNA vaccine the worst thing is that it won’t work. Otherwise, it simply gets degraded so I didn’t see the harm.

like

I'm pregnant now (after 2 years of trying) and got the Pfizer vaccine during my 2nd trimester. I checked with my OB first who recommended getting the vaccine, but I never had any concerns. My thinking is there are more health risks if I get COVID than if I get the vaccine (which has been deemed safe for pregnant women though I agree more research will need to be done). If I get COVID, there is a chance that I will harm the baby, or even worse, lose the baby. This is not a risk I'm willing to take. It's up to each mother-to-be to decide what risks they are willing to take.

like

mRNA is fairly new and the studies on fertility are not long-term just yet. As someone who has issues already, I’m waiting until at least one year passes. No one knows if the shot will need a booster or what anyway - why rush?

like

I would say that while you might not be satisfied with the vaccine, it's well established that if you succeed in getting pregnant, covid can have terrible consequences for you and the baby. Personally, I'd be devastated if after investing all that time and money, I got covid while pregnant. Personally, I'd rather get the vaccine now so I don't have to worry about the effect of getting it while pregnant or of being unprotected during any part of my pregnancy.
