Wondering if any of you typically get a holiday gift for the Exec you support, and if you do, what do you typically gift them?

Uh, no. Haven’t had a raise in several years (besides stellar reviews) and considering my manager makes at least 4x my salary and just gives me a bottle of relatively inexpensive wine, if that, it’s a hard no.

I expect gifts not give them. Especially when I have been capped and keep getting added work on top of my work.

Gifts flow down, not up. With that said, if you bake, bringing in treats is appropriate. Given the crazy nature of things this year, I would give a hard pass to anything beyond a lovely or funny card, whichever is appropriate

like

No, never. They all make much more money, get bonuses (which EAs are not eligible for) so no, I don’t buy gifts for any of them. For my fellow support staff, it’s different. But some years you can, and others you can’t. This year is definitely a can’t.

The person who reports to me IS getting a gift though.

No raise in years and there is a pause on overtime as well, even though you have to work out of hours sometimes. All that being said, I will get a couple of people I support something this year.

Same here

I usually give my manager something small and/or funny, or I bake, but nothing over a self imposed $15 limit. But my most recent manager does nothing for anyone and I found the little thing I bought her last year in the back of her coat closet even though she laughed very hard when she opened it and told me she loved it. So I’m done putting in the effort. If we’re back in the office this time next year I’ll bake again, so the whole team can enjoy.

I would normally purchase a card.

I make cookies or some baked item. They love it.

I give them a bag of Walmart potato chips. I get stellar reviews in return

No more. I used to bake cookies and one year the cookies sat in my partners coat closet for months until I finally threw them out. That was it for me, especially since he stopped me giving me a gift.

I usually get them something small. Last year I did a personalized ornament and yes I get a very nice card with a little something in it. :)

I usually bring in a small gift. I’ve only been in my current position for 2 years and they’ve been pretty generous for Christmas. The first year I bought them a bottle of wine, the second year, I bought two of them an organizer to keep all of their electronics in when they traveled ($15 ea) and the other I bought his girls a mermaid tail blanket. This year, I have twice as many partners... so I might go back to a nice bottle of wine for each of them.

If you made a personal connection with your person, you'd want to and have an idea what to send. If you are wondering if you should and what, then the answer is probably no.

I support 9 people so they all get holiday cards and that’s IT

Just a card

Personally my boss is amazing. I’ve been supporting him for years now, and he is always extremely generous. I do like gifting him something small and reasonable at Christmas. It’s typically dress socks or some home baking, but I wanted to do something different this year that wasn’t too personal for a male especially since he’s been so supportive in protecting my role through this pandemic. I landed on a ‘shop local’ gift basket that I made myself with various items from different vendors in the city including the homemade baking of course.
