You know that this is a remarkably outdated view of how the brain works, as well as how intelligence works, right?
You should catch up on your reading and look into plasticity specifically.
It helps to be informed
SBS - I would suggest that it is more about thinking critically, skeptically, and being less credulous in your case.
You’re pointing at a false dichotomy. The great strategists can do it all, because they’re very smart people. In particular, lacking numeracy limits many, but analyzing and interpreting data intelligently actually requires a lot of creativity as well.
But then again, they’re calling account people “client strategists” at some agencies so the word itself really no longer means anything
Huh?
I think you should be careful to not fall into pop psychology.
OP, your question is confusing. You started off asking about right/left brain and ended with right/left handed. Those aren't the same... can you clarify?
Sorry for the confusion. If you’re left-handed it’s likely you’re right-brain is stronger. Right-handed, left-brained. Therefore my hypothesis is that those who are digital/media/social strategists may be right-handed & left-brained whereas creative/brand strategists may be left-handed & right-brained
There’s an awesome edition of Hidden Brain on this. Check it out!
Yeah. This is exactly why I brought this up. Just listened to the episode
It’s both but most struggle that both hemispheres are critical. To see the big picture you need details and to see details you need to know the big picture. The challenge with the current norm is we’re tasked to look at the big picture only (big campaign with a comms framework) or the details (nuanced execution sans the understanding of cumulative impact). I still get pinged for posing this discussion in r2 creative reviews.
True strategists are ambidextrous. 😉
