Hi Everyone,
I just received an offer to work as an software sales representative (SDR) for IBMs Z systems. I'm coming as a sales engineer in the cloud security space. Can anyone advise me on whether Z systems are something worth going into? Also what do the growth opportunities look like at IBM? Is there opportunity for lateral movement onto other teams? Not too sure how I feel about working on mainframes (Z systems) but they keep pitching hybrid cloud to me. IBM

I am of the opinion that if the work gets done well and on time, the location it happens in doesn't matter. It's on leadership to hire and manage in a way that promotes team work and offers employees the independence to work where and how it best fits them.
Yes - we had more remote workforce in our long range plans pre covid but very few remote employees at that time. Now that everyone is remote we have determined that the majority don’t wish to return full time and will be working to embrace that in our return plans. However, I think part of why remote work is working so well right now is because everyone is remote. When some are on site there are issues of remote team members feeling left out of hallway convos etc so it will be interesting to see how people’s wishes evolve.
