Work Halloween event & CEO says costumes are mandatory. If I say fuck it & don’t dress up because I’m no longer a child, nothing is really going to happen, right?

pretty small reason to get on the CEO's bad side and seem like a sourpuss.

Every party has a pooper, that’s why we invited you. Party pooperrrrrr

like

👆🏻Really? That seems a little fucking extreme. 🙄

like

Dress normal and tell them you are emotionally stable 😂

If you’re leadership and you don’t attempt to dress up in the slightest, I believe that sends a bad message to the people who work for you. As someone on the bottom of the totem pole, i work harder and respect my leadership team more when I know they participate in the little things. Makes it feel like we are all in this together. I know it sounds lame, but it really is the little things. No one is making you do anything and you’re certainly not going to get into trouble but it’s the message it sends. You could even get cat ears and it would still count for something. Sorry for the long rant.

Unless it’s written in your employee contract or for some reason part of your job description...if not which is probably the case fuck that shit. Or throw on a Hawaiian shirt...there I’m vacation guy.

like

I agree if you're in executive leadership that changes the context and also explains why the CEO was telling you to dress up, which originally seemed weird for them to engage with or mandate from regular file and rank. Yes, you should do something as a leader to participate in your organization's events. In this case, it's kinda part of the job.

like

I never dress up and still enjoy the Halloween office parties. CEO can't legally make anyone dress up and no, nothing is going to happen. Just be ready to answer questions from your super excited dressed up colleagues about why you didn't do it. If it helps, my friend puts on every year a white plastic trash bag over his clothes with White Trash written with a marker on it. Another friend wears a t-shirt that says "This is my costume"

like

Dress up as a party pooper.

like

If you’re in leadership, that makes Edelman1’s specific point about team engagement even more relevant. Doing so shows you support your CEO and the company culture (though maybe you don’t support your CEO to that extent).

like

Just dress as a disgruntled employee. So go as yourself.

like

^^I was about to suggest this t-shirts. Yes it can be considered minimal participation but that's better no participation

like

Wear a brown shirt and antlers: deer. Wear a cape w standard white dress shirt black pants: vampire/Dracula. Wear a plastic Viking hat: Viking. Wear Mickey ears + gloves: mickey. There’s SO many minimal effort things you can do to make you not look like someone too cool for school that doesn’t give a shit

like

It’s so hard to build team engagement. It’s even harder to do it with shit heads who are too cool for school. Don’t dress up, but remember that your professional performance is measured by more than just your client outcomes. Better still, don’t be such a wimp and go tell your boss how you feel and then decide together whether you’re in the right place.

like

OP, don't get bullied by people on here over a stupid thing. This is not going to make or break your career, so don't you lose sleep over it. Just be a nice person and make friends with your coworkers the rest of the year. Like I said, I've never dressed up and many others at all the shops I've been didn't either, it's fine! I usually do something small in the spirit of the holiday like a pumpkin pin in my hair or a spider broach on my blouse just for kicks. You don't have to do anything, live your life!

like

I’d say either dress up or don’t go. As annoying as it is it’s important people in your company see you as a “good fit”, particularly as a mid level employee. As bullshit as the request is do you really want to risk getting on your CEOs bad side over something stupid like this. Just my POV, I’m sure others will disagree.

like

I’m not a mid-level. I’m on the leadership team. That make a difference?

like

Stupid way to out yourself as not being a team player while simultaneously disrespecting the most powerful person in the company. Why not just show up wearing a sign that says “don’t promote me”?

like

Hard to say

You could say it is against your religious belief and see what he the CEO does then.

I’m thinking of quitting breastfeeding. My baby is 5 months old, and my pump just broke, and I don’t think she’s eating enough and she wakes up all the time at night hungry. I’m just tired of it. I’d rather just give her bottles and call it a day. Ready for my husband to take the night feeds, ready to be able to have a drink without worrying about when I have to feed the baby. The actual breastfeeding has been easy, which is why I feel guilty for “quitting.”

Hey mommas - My baby is 14 weeks old and I haven't gotten my period back yet. I'm worried I'm pregnant again. When did you get your period back? For context, I'm breastfeeding but not exclusively (I am pumping and nursing as much as I can though). I've been on the pill since 6 weeks and my husband used condoms for the first few weeks once we started again. Surprisingly, I can't find anything online that's helpful. Any sense of a timeframe would be tremendously anxiety-reducing!

Anyone dealt with your sibling getting divorced and the SIL fallout? My brother is going though a divorce and it is ugly. She is saying he is “unfit” (he is not). He has a 32 yr old who I am very close to, and a 12 yr old who is my goddaughter. His ex was my bff and now she says he is an unfit father and trying to take away his parental rights. I am stunned. It has fractured us beyond what I thought possible. Do I stay neutral for the nieces? Do I shout at the top of my lungs he is a good guy?

What would you do in this situation I don’t think the child is being physically or sexually abused but I don’t think his living situation is safe or healthy for him?
