I know this varies based on the company but besides project needs from the hiring manager, does anybody take multiple months between when your background check clears and you actually start? I don’t want to immediately jump from job to job but not sure if taking some time off is generally accepted.
At what age were your kids able to sleep alone in an unfamiliar place (e.g., room in vacation home)? Last time we traveled with our two and three year olds we found my husband needed to share the room with them and then they were happy and slept… but it meant he had to go to bed at like 8/830 pm which kind of sucks. They are now 4 and 2.5… should they be able to go to sleep in the room together without him there? Are they old enough to understand and cooperate?
In a perfect world, I would have work-life balance and be able to disconnect on a somewhat normal basis. In this world, I can't Are there other ways you fully unplug from work without actually taking time off?
Best family vacation destination you've been to in the past year or two? Something covid-friendly but that will appeal to my wife and kids [son, 22 and daughter, 18] thanks!
Has anyone ever taken a leave of absence/sabbatical due to burnout/exhaustion/depression? I'm feeling at my wits end with everything right now and have an appointment with my dr tomorrow. I feel like some time off away from everything would do me some good - I also have some other medical problems - but I'm afraid of what it might do to my career, what my co-workers/family will think, etc.
Those of you who work at smaller companies (under 50 employees), would you mind sharing what kind of benefits you receive? How much pto? What’s the contribution to health, dental etc? Do you get any less common benefits? Thank you
Can restricted holiday application be rejected by reporting manager? Do they generally do so?
I heard most of us are off for some holiday next week, so enjoy the day off to prepare for the holiday!
Is it reasonable to ask for three weeks before joining a new company? I was thinking a two week notice and a week vacation to take a breath. What do you think ?
I’m on the GPS PDM town hall and they seem to be ignoring the fact that the PTO impacts the PDM track whereas other tracks do not…. Unless they answered and I missed it
I got a job offer and my wife is pregnant and due in 2 months. Do I accept and tell them? Or tell them before I accept? Not looking to immediately take time off if that matters. Maybe a two weeks then take an LOA after a few months.
Has anyone taken time off work because of their mental health? Did it help? Feel like I am at a breaking point but worried if I do it once I’ll end up doing it for the rest of my career
My husbands mom lives with us and we usually get along fine, but today I am over it. WFH means being with her 24/7 and after the holiday's I am just done. I wish it was just the 2 of us again. Can I force his sister to take her? I want my house back, but I also don't want to be the crabby wife.
Last day at my agency is the same day as the holiday party. Going to tell everyone "thanks for coming, drinks are on the house." Best going away party ever.
Gift idea for my mom who has been helping so much with baby? She’s not into designer items. Was thinking furniture or a new car when prices calm down but those can’t be surprises. She’s very covid conscious, or would love to take her on a nice spa day or vacation. No price limit.
What’s my responsibility for checking emails while I’m on vacation? I have great producer coverage for all my projects while I’m gone but I’ve never gone complete radio silence for an entire week.

Anyone familiar with comp range for ‘associate director’ title at Guidehouse? LinkedIn shows up to $165k base which seems pretty low for a manager-level role. If it helps, looking into energy, sustainability and infrastructure (ES&I) practice (commercial sector clients). Thanks
I need hearts to chat! Help a homie out!
Dude on the subway keeps brushing his hair like every 3 minutes. It's barely longer than his eye brows! Why????? People annoy me.
Hello, I am a 3rd year insurance defense attorney with product and premise liability experience. Due to long-COVID, I am likely to lose my job. The plan is to find a government position that would involve more substantive litigation and trial work, then leverage that into the private sector a few years down the line. Any advice would be appreciated regarding networking, where to start, etc. Thank you.
Anyone willing to refer me to Slack for SDE intern role? I am pursuing my Masters degree and have 2 years of relevant work experience!

My aunt was diagnosed with terminal cancer today and given 6 months to live. She’s developing her bucket list, but what are some other things I can do to be there for her and show my support? I live across the country from her and am planning on taking some time to go visit her in the next few weeks, but want to do something for her between now and then.
