Working at a B4 and trying to get a return offer in a different group from the one I’m interning with. I’ve been networking crazy, but the recruiter says she has to see if my profile matches first. How can I take matters into my own hands to pivot?

Also got to remember that these processes are highly regimented and controlled by each national group. What the recruiter means is just because one business unit hired you, does not mean you’d meet the thresholds for another. For example: at D we have different target schools for different profiles (even within consulting.) So say you interned with SAP but wanted to join full time in a more strategy aligned function, if you didn’t go to a target school for strategy then you wouldn’t be eligible for the campus offer.

I’m not saying don’t try with your recruiter, just know that a lot of these processes have tightened up even in the last few years. When I got here a decade ago all it took to really do anything was to have a partner send a note or two, now days those exception stories are nearly extinct

Once they give you the offer, you have all the leverage. If you want to be in X group, make that a requirement before accepting the offer.

Following this because I’m trying to do the same thing

Ex-Consulant here that now works for a big name Real Estate Investment Trust. Saw on LinkedIn that EY has an America’s REIT Leader. Didn’t know that much attention was paid to the REIT space. Are there really consulting teams dedicated to the REIT space in the Big 4? Love working for a REIT and would love to jump back to consulting if there were teams dedicated to the industry.
