working for the US firm but left to stay in canada during COVID wfh – I know it’s technically not allowed, but are there legal ramifications if I’m here for awhile? (OPT visa)

Are you a Canadian citizen? Because the Canadian government just shut the border to all but Canadian residents and US citizens.

If you booked your travel via personal reservation (I.e. no company record), and get stuck in Canada, I would not tell anyone and just work as normal. Still charge your time with location of your work office city. Obviously this isn’t on the “up and up” but these are extreme circumstances. Also I know lots of Canadians who do this during regular trips back to visit family.

Yes there are-tax specifically but if you’re doing client work in another country you technically need a work visa I think (though if you’re Canadian I’m not quite clear how that would work). I’d be very very cautious if I were you as this can get super messy from a tax perspective.

charging this week as vacation and yes I’m Canadian, but worried I might get stuck here

Hate to say it but that’s a risk you took. I wouldn’t charge while in Canada-it’s not worth risking your job over. If you do get stuck, you should reach out to your project leadership to assess the situation and then determine if you want to request formal permission (if that’s even possible).

Why do you Canadians keep working for the US firms

I work remotely internationally all the time. 🤷‍♀️

Huge risk. Don't do this pls! Especially on a OPT visa.

Hi everyone,

I was affected by layoffs about a month ago and urgently looking for a good immigration lawyer. The lawyer should be experienced in handling this 60 day grace period situation and developing alternate strategies - such as change of status to B1/B2 or applying to jobs from India. There is a lot of noise and wrong information going in the market so looking for good recommendations.

I have very little time left for my grace period to end and need a consultation soon. Thanks

Was wondering if there's still biases in most law firms in relation to being tattooed? I have a lot of tattoos, that I started getting after I got hired at my firm. Now that I'm looking for a new job, I'm wondering if I should have them covered up? I also have my hair dyed an unnatural color. If it matters, I'm only looking at remote positions.

Im a RN and took on a new role working in Home Health. I chose this position because My husband & I recently moved to PA with our 2 kids (1&3), with no family available for his residency program with a hospital. If you know that life, I’m pretty much the main parent for our kids. I don’t want to work in the hospital/floor work anymore; nor do I believe the hrs are flexible enough. I need a job that’s flexible for the kids but pays >$44/hr. Maybe remote or hybrid? Please help w/ suggestions.

Hey Googlers,
I just accepted an offer to join Google in Dublin! I am excited for the company, but not so much the location. I had a couple questions:
1. I read the Google remote policy, but what’s happening team by team, are managers cool with extended remote?

2. How hard is it to transfer to New York or California after a year?

Any other insight helps! Thanks!
