no offense - but 2 partners can more than afford to build out 2 offices in your house with some distance/sound proofing
Take as many calls as you can on walks. It really helps. Even if it’s just one a day, I find the moving while working kind of cathartic and you get a break from each other. I take notes in my notes app if I’m on the go.
Same boat, my husband and I are both partners at my firm. In some ways it’s nice to have a spouse who gets it, but overall, it creates a lot of stress! We at least work on different floors of our house, but that doesn’t really help that much lol.
I agree. Even in large homes you still hear each other. At least we do in my case
Yes it totally makes sense. Is there any way you can find a cheap place to work outside of the office or dedicate some space in the house as a no-work zone? Otherwise, I would try and see if you can find a schedule that allows you to have some breaks at the same time.
Makes me feel good to know there are other ladies that are sharing this burden of stress. Although I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It’s wonderful that we’re both partners but the stress at our level can get very overwhelming. I can hear his calls and I can hear his voice getting elevated and I hear the frustration and the big sighs!! I feel like I live and breathe every phone call that he has an every meeting I have
Same boat - 2 partners in our house. My husband is happy to be back in the office. I go in 2 days a week, he goes in 3-4 days a week. At home, we sit on different floors in different places, but he is so loud lol… and is much higher stress. Makes it a lot better for us to be back to the office though. Then it’s kind of nice when we are home.
Haha my husband is sooo loud too!!!
Not to minimize the stress you are feeling as consulting work can be rough. Hopefully you can carve out enough space (even if that means a quick break outside) to not share his stress.
However, having worked the majority of my career in consulting, many events consultants regard as “emergencies” are often not, in the big picture of things. Just sayn.
I’m stressed treading this 😫😰. Maybe you guys need to take turns going to the office.
😁 we are all human. Including typos! I do it all the time
Understandable. In addition to separation, may need to find ways to tune out his work energy. Maybe noise cancelling headphones and classical or spa music
Same same. He works upstairs in his office. I work at the downstairs at the dining room table. Voices carry up and down the stairs. I feel worse when kids are home for summer and hear it too and say things Like “wow the people you work with are dumb” or “what did x person do to make you so mad.” First world problems I know but it’s taxing. All the same, neither of us are eager to go back to weekly travel.
Coach
I know what you mean it feels like I’m working two jobs I carry the stress of his job and mine at the same time. The stress of our meetings permeate through everyone in the house
I totally get this and can relate. Thankfully my husband and I are both in the office now!
