I find a company I could get behind working for… literally dive head first just to see if they really mean it… but of course they only exist on the *other* side of the globe. Does this resonate with literally anybody but me? https://www.quanticofinancial.com/blog/accountants-hate-their-jobs

Maybe if everyone named their 3 worst instead of just 1 it'll be a better thought exercise. If it's just one there will be too much variety, but if there's 3 it is more likely to see lots of overlap and thereby some level of consensus

I feel like no one firm is all bad, or all great. Even within groups, a toxic partner can ruin things so it's impossible to say firm wide. That being said, Kirkland.

I’d rather talk about worst law firm practices. I’ll start, losing six associates in a row and not replacing them but instead redistributing their work
A4 are we at the same $2B firm?

I agree 😂

I have consistently heard the worst stories out of Simpson.
When I interviewed at Simpson during OCI I had two associates tell me they were trying to leave it was so bad

So- True story. Was at KE. I guess you can say I am “a quirky guy”. Once when I was in the bathroom stall 2 other people walked in and I overheard one senior associate try to bro talk with a partner saying “isn’t (me) super weird”. They were just standing there pissing and talking crap about how awkward I can be like they were best buds. Could not have been more mortified in that moment- I didn’t say anything.

White & case has a terrible reputation for assholes in my practice

Never worked at W&C but they seem to be a sweatshop based on working across from them. An associate in the london office will begin emailing me at 7 am london time and still be turning documents to me at 2 am london time… even on Friday nights. The partner as well.

Don’t want to say the firm but when I was doing OCI the interviewer asked if I was ok with people screaming at me and what would I do if I got screamed at. I said “I guess I’d want to know the reason- if I did something wrong” and she kind of scoffed and said “that’s if you even did anything” and I noped out of there

I've only been at 3 firms. Current one great, previous one OK, first one was absolutely abysmal (V&E). Same practice group in all 3, so I can say that cultural differences really do matter in overall enjoyment of your firm and practice area (at least from my experience).
Also had a bad experience at V&E; almost noped out of biglaw thinking I couldn’t cut it, but as it turns out I wasn’t the problem.

Lol that a post like this will find "consensus." The answer will be either KE since everyone loves to hate on them, or pretty ever firm in top 100.

And the winnner is . . . Kirkland!

@OP “Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?”
K&E has no culture, but I think the training is worth it for your early career. The comp at this point is, frankly, not. Time to go.
