While we have all had these bad meetings, it helps to remember we are all trying to do our best including our reps
Not what this post was for but ok
Anything that’s ION related. They always deliver
Reason why I asked: had a partner meeting the other day with someone we’d never met with. We took our time to put together a very thorough briefing document on our client, our media planning process, our team structure, etc and sent to the partner 2 biz days before the meeting. The document clearly outlines our expectations and that we’d like a deck with ideas/suggestions/thought starters sent through that we can discuss during our call.
Despite this, the partner got on the phone and literally said, “Sup guys!!! How’s it hanging??” Had no deck for us to look at, no ideas for us, not even like a planned out intro to who their company is. I was SHOCKED and the level of just total disregard for our time.
I’m sorry that rep disregarded all the great info you spoon fed him! I wish all my clients did this. It would save time and make meetings so much more effective and helpful for everyone. But hey. First step is responding and ya’ll aren’t very good at that sometimes. I was on the agency side before sales, and the courtesy of a response as well as desire to learn as part of your jobs, is lost on a lot of media teams.
We once had a rep come in saying they would bring lunch - and brought two subway sandwiches for 10 people. The rep was unprepared to talk about their product as it related to the client they wanted to talk about (client was US only, platform was mostly scaled in APAC). Weirdest 15 minutes...ever?
I love a good lunch snafu meeting hahahah
Oh believe me. I know I've given some terrible, awkward presentations as well. I'm not immune to reproach.
Vendor was a (crappy) social listening tool. When we asked about operators for building queries he told me “oh, Boolean logic is SO 2018.”
Same guy who told me their algorithm for determining relevancy was “based on math.”
Oh, well if it’s MATH then I guess I have no further questions!
Rep dude we had never met before came into our office and made it clear we were his last meeting of what was apparently a long biz trip for him. He spent literally 30 seconds showing us a demo of the product he was pitching on his phone and then said cool, so what do you guys want to talk about now?

Oooooooomg hahahah not good not good
Analytics product. Neither of the two on the call, one of them being a product guy, could actually add GA into the dashboard to demonstrate it for us.
After watching them struggle long enough to go from amusement, to annoyance, to pity, I told them to stop. If they, working there, couldn't figure out how to add Google Analytics to a reporting dashboard, then this wouldn't be intuitive enough for my team.
We had a Yelp rep we just spent an hour ripping into one time too. He was walking into a tough crowd to be fair, but my God he could not answer shit.
