Worth doing a 3 year JD MBA purely out of intellectual curiosity (firm will pay for 2 of the 3 years). It would be at either Penn, Columbia, or Northwestern

Either? That's three objects...

From friends' experience, it can make firms question what you actually want to do after your degree, and will make recruiting harder.

like

@P2 yes lawmakers often have law degrees

like

A2 is shortsighted. Talk to someone at a PE firm. That's a job where both degrees are useful.

like

Would getting the JD detract from the MBA experience?? Only negative in my mind is that you might lose out on some of the social aspects of bschool because law school requires more studying. But assuming intellectual curiosity trumps some social stuff, go for it!

like

But serious - yes do what you want to do! With a JD MBA you will have opened another door to potentially entering boutique consulting firms that focus on regulations or legislative cases - like cornerstone. And if firm is paying for 2/3 I don't see why the $$$ would be an issue.

like

Yes, bc the opp cost of getting the second degree later could be so high that you likely won't get it

like

I've noticed that many politicians have JDs over MBAs. Is that something you are considering OP?

like

Intellectual curiosity is subjective, but if you can afford the double tuition/get adequate schollys then go for it. Wouldn't make much of difference in career outlook except in certain types of PE roles.

Do it. I would die to be in your position. Just know that the JD requires a lot more studying than the MBA.

Idk, just seems like your indecisive....

Idk if having both will create many synergies. If you want to do corporate law, you don't need the MBA. If you want to do consulting or business-related things, you don't need the JD. Even if you wanted to be a Counsel for a large business, you'd only need the JD. There aren't jobs that require both

Go to penn

I went to Columbia MBA . Law students just sulked around campus. I don't know what they were doing to those kids but it didn't look fun.

jd/mba in 3 yrs? huh. i got my jd in 3. the jd/mbas i know dont get paid anymore, but they do have extra business knowledge that can be useful. most want to start their own businesses someday so i imagine having a jd/mba would be an asset in that regard. i usually tell people not to go to law school unless they know what they want to do with their degree (and they need a jd to do that), there's a lot of unemployed lawyers out there... for jd definitely columbia, penn then NW (not sure on how to rank the mba programs)

and yeah @p3--getting a jd is not fun.

Fuck you whining about ? You're in a good position to do it. For someone as smart as you, surprised you haven't figured out you should do it

Any thoughts on which would be best for future, quickest to get, hardest test?
