Would a personal bankruptcy impact my ability to get hired or make partner at a V20 firm?

Sadly yes as it is viewed as an inability to manage finances (and not a personal misfortune of not being born into a wealthy family). Considering making a proposal to your creditors as opposed to outright bankruptcy. Speak to a banko lawyer on your viable options

Do they credit check you before a hiring for a job or is it on your law society record as a mark?

Well yeah, but do they look for that or do you have to self disclose? I used to work in HR and we didn’t verify everyone’s degrees with the college - that would be a waste of time with 99% of applicants.

Happy Halloween y’all!
I’m looking for some insight into the market for recent grads. It’s been a while since I’ve been a recent grad myself but my younger sibling just graduated from an ivy cum laude and has had no luck in her search for over 4 months. Is this normal? (For more context, she has a degree in economics, about a year of internship experience and is looking for a financial analyst role or something similar. She’s applied to roles through company sites, handshake, LinkedIn, indeed…)

PSA only because this has been asked 3 times in the last 24 hours. No, we don't know when the next big drop is coming. No, don't ask us which stocks to short. No, don't ask us if your 7/17 way OTM puts are gonna be ok. (Hint: they aren't).

Nobody knows the answer and don't take anyone's guess as fact. And certainly don't copy anyone's plays expecting them to be right.

Can’t decide on a job offer. Currently employed and have been wanting to do something different. The other job offer is pretty much what I make now but I’d be losing on a lot of PTO. I kind of feel really confused about what to do. The hiring manager actually picked up on the fact that I don’t sound super excited for the job. But I feel like this is my chance to leave and do something different but I’m hung up on barely any PTO and swapping to a complete different industry.

Hello! I have a heavy background in law but was hoping to transition out of it. Does anyone know of a company/industry that would be a good stepping stone to get out of the legal field, but still apply my skills that I have acquired.

When you’re an associate introducing a partner to the court or others, how do you refer to them? I once said “my partner so-and-so” then cringed at what that sounded like and backtracked, “I mean, a partner at my firm …” — do you say “my colleague”? But that doesn’t seem sufficient to acknowledge their title when you’re not peers?

It is common practice at my small firm by two main partners to fly through transactions for clients regardless of potential conflicts (for the company) or issues that may arise. It is often chaotic and has led to lawsuits being filed by investors against the clients. I know this is expected from time to time but I feel like I’m not getting the proper exposure to doing deals the right way. Would it be better at a larger firm or is this common anywhere? Mostly deal with microcap companies.

Q’s for hiring partners and recruiters - you know that most associates quit their managing attorneys and not the firm/case. I’m in that boat. What do I say to a prospective employer about the situation of why I want to jump ship?

Very brief background - I’m a senior associate who has been on one complex commercial litigation case for over a year. Over time, the relationships between attorneys on the case have deteriorated to the point that it is affecting my productivity/work. I want out.
