4.5 seems high. Investing in equities is a bad idea- you’ve missed the gravy train. Clearing your debt might be a good idea so long you have liquidity for 6 months just in case.

Your hysa isnt paying 4.5%. Pay the loan that is a high rate in today's world

If it helps, no other debt (cc/car/other). Part of me wants to finally be free of “owing” money due to ignorant choices about college (all my fault!). But I don’t want to be rash and get into another less than ideal financial situation while getting out of this one.

You can get debt against stock for about 1.5% with interactive brokers

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.
