Would anyone from Venables look at my book?
I have a question, fellow bowlaz! I work in a small advertising agency in Oslo, Norway, and we struggle to get in contact with international ad media such as Adweek (Ad Freak) and Ad Age whenever we want to show off our creative work. Does anyone of you have a way in, or tips on how we can get in contact with media outlets like these? Cheers

I feel like a portfolio night for more experienced candidates is needed more in our industry. Sigh, ageism.
I'm going. My current title is Senior Copywriter, but I think it's a stretch. And at agencies like W+K or Droga, who knows?
I wouldn't have chosen a career in advertising if I was just in it for the money—so I ain't above thinking of myself as a Junior to get to the work I want to do.
That’s a great idea, @LB1, but I think this event has less to do with age and more to do with level of experience.
... which is why my 32 y/o ass bought a ticket 😬
I get it...but I think you've gotta do what you've gotta do for yourself. Nobody is creating opportunities for you—if you're not where you want to be, why shouldn't you be there?
Why not? You can go there to see what’s in the portfolios these days to stay relevant
I really want to attend too as I'm on the job hunt and looking for new contacts. My fear is
1: looking out of place as I'm not "breaking in"
2: coming off as a jerk taking up a spot some recent grad or jr could probably use more than me
@SC1, my concerns exactly
^ does this actually work for anybody? I can't tell you how many CDs, ACDs, etc I've reached out to...maybe my approach is wrong, but I feel like I've tried them all.
A girl got an opportunity with McCann by dressing up as the fearless girl... Shame is a luxury I can't afford at this point. I'm going unless I see that there won't be any CDs there from agencies where I'd be willing to take a Copywriter or Junior Copywriter title.
CW 3: what's your secret to this illusive 100% success rate? Feel like you might be bluffing a bit here. Half my emails don't even get opened and that's to be expected.
It’s a bold ice. And I’d respect it.
I’d hit ppl up via email directly to ask them questions
Yes it works, approach is everything. I’m always cold call emailing CD’s and they all respond all the time. Also your book should be worthy of their time
@SC1 I never said 100% - exaggerated the word “all” There have been a few with no responses. If I had to put a number I’d say response rate is 75% of the time. And have landed multiple recruiter phone calls and 4 CD interviews using this method. My point is to encourage this method because it’s been pretty lucky for me
