What are reasonable salary expectations for a role in one of these organisations? Facebook (Meta) Amazon Apple Netflix Google

Flip that question and you will see how silly it sounds.
Good bootcamps may open some doors, if not at FAANG to some other tech firms. You'll need to invest serious time and energy though
I don’t really think this is possible. Do you have any coding experience including low code no code or macros? It’s probably easier to go for a program management role in a fin tech position (the teams that manage the financial systems) and then see if you can transfer into a tech role or if there are internal training programs for you to get trained up and transfer.
Probably, but you can be creative with your experience. I was a math major with some coding experience (mostly data analysis and modeling in matlab). My senior year I spent $20 on a front-end course on Udemy and became a front-end eng soon afterwards. I wouldn’t jump straight into a bootcamp with 0 coding experience though - try building some projects and following youtube tutorials, uploading what you make to github along the way.
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks DE 1, I’ll explore more before jumping in 100%. Are certs just as important for the roles?
No, I would say a portfolio of projects is more important but it depends on the area of software engineering you want to go into. UI / Front end doesn’t really have any certs. If you’re interested in DevOps I would recommend a cloud cert (AWS/GCP/Azure). For AI/ML personally I like Google’s ecosystem so you might want to get one of their certs.
If this truly is your goal , I’d suggest accepting a role in your trained field at a FAANG company, preferably Amazon or Google ( because they have internal programs for employees wanted to pivot into coding) and explore your options. This way you are still earning a good salary and learning / training to be in IT. Please don’t start collecting certifications without work experience
Yes, but it’s not a normal path and you will have to work extra hard at networking and building a portfolio. I say yes, because this was my husband’s exact career path. He spent a lot of time working on certs, building his portfolio, going to networking events, and applying for jobs before it worked out for him. Understand it will most likely take you longer, but accounting is actually a great background for certain IT - coding jobs, particularly around auditing and data security.
