I don’t think so. Experience is experience and with how crazy the world is right now, everything can be explained. It’s your life to live. Consulting is a transient lifestyle by nature.

Also a long term client as an independent consultant would probably be a very good reference for any future employer..

No. It will look just like you were a consultant you just didn’t work at a large firm. You’re still doing project based work. I would get those guaranteed hours in a contract of sorts though, anything can happen. Also contractors are usually the first let go so if stability is a requirement, then I would factor that in to your decision.

like

1200 x the rate = 2x your current take home? You need about 2x your take homeA to break even when you factor in the extra taxes and costs (e.g. double FICA, insurance etc). If it’s 2x take home for only 1200 hours, the math does pretty well (obviously run your own numbers). I’d get a guarantee in writing, however.

like

Don't think it is looked down on. If anything you've proven that you can bring in at least enough revenue to feed yourself. I'm not sure how guaranteed those hours are so I don't know if I would 100% bank on those.

Currently at 85k base. I got an offer for a Corporate Strategy in industry for 120k base (trying to negotiate to 130). I need to sign the written offer in 3 biz days. I’m also interviewing for a PM role at a startup and was told I’m in the short list. Startup couldn’t give me any specifics because they are still interviewing but said they aren’t worried they can’t meet the Corporate Strategy offer. Can I sign the offer while waiting on the PM and leave for the PM role afterwards?

I think (fingers crossed) that I am about to get a job offer for a management role. It would be a 45 percent pay increase and I honestly might be able to negotiate it to up to 55, but I just don’t feel excited about it. It’s a smaller company then where I am now, but still a decent size and great reputation, but the team is much smaller. I really want to be more excited because I know it’s a good opportunity.
