Would it be the height of stupidity to not take an offer that pays over $75k more for more complex work (desired) in my area of law due to my resume already having seceral quick moves (between 1-3 years)? Been at current firm for 1.5 (I know in the end it’s my choice and depends on my circumstances but like to hear from others in the profession).

Take the money.

If someone ever asks you why you made a move so quickly, “$75K raise and more interesting work” is an extremely easy explanation.

People turn down offers for more pay all the time for all kinds of reasons, so it’s not stupid. Were you wanting to leave?

like

It sounds like you may want to leave, though. If that’s the case, you should take it.

How much do you like your current job? If the answer is “not much” then leave. Are you planning on moving again in a year or two? If not, then I wouldn’t worry too much about bouncing around a bit before you find a good fit.

75k?? To me that’s enough to mean that my wife no longer has to work. I’d take the money.

The firm I am currently with is good with WLB but new firm would be remote, although likely more hours. Currently billing about 160-170 which might increase to 180-200. One of my other fears is feeling like I haven’t been trained enough or know enough for the next firm. Probably some imposter syndrome going on.

A bunch of moves isn’t great, but it’s all about having the narrative to support it. If you were stepping up in firm/pay every time, or some of your moves were to change geography, that is a good narrative. Take the raise. Also sounds like in your case the prior quick moves were prelaw, which is a completely different story and I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Were your prelaw jobs related to your current area of practice?

How many moves/jobs and over what length of time were the post-law pre-bar jobs you had? Having too many in a short period may indicate you were let go so if there are more than 2 within 12-18 months, I’d likely focus on the 2 most relevant to your practice as an attorney

Hi 🐠 two offers — would love to hear any insight: Offer 1: Walmart senior product manager: $200K base; $50k bonus, $40k stock vesting 4 years, $40k stock each year (vesting 4 years), $20k signing. TC YR1= $280k Offer 2: pre-ipo start up product manager, $145k base, $55k bonus, $40k shares, $15k signing. TC YR1=$225K. Work at startup is more interesting and greater WLB but not sure if the $$ makes it worth it. Thanks!

I’m a non-traditional UG student veteran at Yale University w/10 YoE in the intel community, 1YoE contracting for a 3 letter agency and had an IB internship with an NY-based BB last year (received FT offer but turned it down for family reasons). Graduate in May ‘22 & major in poly sci. Applying for FT roles with MBB this summer and am wondering if anyone had any advise on other consulting firms worth applying to? I’m sure I’m overlooking some firms & Yale CS hasn’t been very helpful. Thank you!

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
