I have an opportunity to do something like a secondment, but my firm doesn't technically do that, so I would need to go on LOA for a year. Good chance I might continue to do it for full time employment after it ends, so I started thinking what would be the consequences if I decided not to come back to the firm after the LOA. Does that look bad? Any other general disadvantages to being on LOA? I would be fully employed by this other org so I some income and benefits
Check the LOA terms. If you are being paid, there may be conditions. I know at Deloitte, family leave requires you to work 30 days after returning, else you will owe back the amount paid out. YMMV, of course!
In terms of how it looks, that's less important than how you spin it. You write your own story and make it amazing.
I saw someone at ACN take a long LOA. Pretty sure we expected them back. Next thing we know, LinkedIn updated with new job and their employment duration at ACN was including their entire time while on LOA.
Seems almost like a winwin since there's no resume-gap. Of course, you don't get paid though.
Yeah I've checked to make sure there's no rules against it since I would be employed and paid while on leave. Since it's not a competitor by any means, nothing to worry there. Also yeah a1, I would technically be double employed for the entire time as well haha
