Would love some thoughts from y’all
My background:
-Undergrad and Grad degree in Eng
-worked 2 years in McK as a BA
-Working in a tech company making 130k base
- On a H1B visa

My goal:
If in the US long term , then work in tech/startups Csuite
If going back to home country, then start my own business/gig

Thinking of applying this fall as it might be easier due to covid, amazing network of peers, make good friends, good exit opportunities

If you were in my spot, would you get an MBA? Why?

Good reasons but no I wouldn't get one.

I’m a bit confused about what you’re looking for / think you might be a shade misinformed.

1. I’m not sure it’ll necessarily be easier to apply due to covid. If anything, I suspect an unusually large number of folks will have deferred, leaving fewer open spots. Moreover, bad economy can mean more ppl applying.

2. If your goal either way is tech / startup / entrepreneurship, bschool is not a very cost-effective way of getting the skills you need - but a host of other reasons that may make it worthwhile regardless!

3. Are you looking for more comp or are you looking for startup experience? Obviously depends on stage, but I don’t think you’re at a place where you can get “beyond 130 to 150K” at a startup, which often pay very poorly (of course, offset by equity which may / may not come to fruition)

like

Repost! Why posting the same question in multiple bowls??

like

Yes. For reasons you’ve indicated.

Will the MBA make a more meaningful difference in comp? Beyond 130k to150k?

Do tech firms and leaderships value MBAs as much as traditional firms do?

Yeah

Any reason you’re not going into an engineer role at FANG? You could easily top 200k without needing to invest in a degree.

With your pre-MBA salary, keep in mind you may not be eligible for scholarships

How would you approach moving back into industry after a long career break?

A successful senior software engineering career (15 years+), I took a significant amount of time out due to burnout and caring responsibilities.

Seven years on, my situation has improved, and the industry has progressed. Remote first companies are numerous, and I’m keen to move back into software development.

I would love to hear a recruiter's perspective on this situation.

No judgement to anyone that does differently. It’s just what I feel comfortable with. I’ve had a few guys tell me they won’t do outdoor dates for some reason… some have cited weather but others legit say no (in 70 weather) because it’s a hassle & “Covid is a joke.” Please tell me if this is normal.
