I don’t have this exact experience (in process of exiting currently, at Sr. Consultant level, into a less traditional industry role) - but can offer a few thoughts from my experience.
1. Hard to answer this one without knowing your specific experience. I had a pretty cross functional experience within the commercial side of pharma and for the last year or so have essentially acted as the chief of staff to a business unit GM. So I had seen a lot and had a pretty good sense for what I liked and didn’t like, and focused my search from there. Then it was more about tailoring my resume / story to show how my experiences as prepares me for the role I wanted, given this role is not something I have direct experience in. I think it’s important to start from what you want and work backwards to understand whether / how the fit can be supported vs. limit yourself to the obvious fit.
2. From what I’ve seen, AD is a realistic goal for consulting M. Depending on the type of company and how directly your experience relates to the role, you may even be able to reach further.
3. For me, I started responding to recruiters who reached out (who I would have previously ignored), even on roles that maybe weren’t exactly what I was looking for. Those relationships proved helpful and I got pretty far in the interview process for a few roles that didn’t end up panning out, but by the time I was interviewing with the one I landed my confidence was up and my story was tight.
4. For me it was a mix of luck and a lot of introspection / preparation. I saw a job posting on LinkedIn, happened to have a friend from high school at the company and reached out for a referral. That absolutely was key to speeding up the process, but then once I was in I again was able to lean on all the prep I had done over the preceding months of job searching to showcase myself in the best light and have a genuine answer for why I wanted the role and why I’d be a good fit

I highly suggest tailoring your resume to the role to maximize your chance of getting an interview. Eg if you’re applying for a commercial role, highlight those experiences. If a forecasting role, highlight the analytics stuff
