Someone has an offer from McKinsey...
No not McKinsey. I actually think that would have been an easy decision lol. More like moving from tier 3 to tier 2
My perspective is that once you reach that level you’ll be more focused on sales and less focused on the type of work you’re doing
Additional context: I think I have a good chance of becoming a partner at my current firm (my reviews are always excellent and I get the feedback from partners that they can see me there). That’s said, the work is very uninteresting to me.
If you really don’t like the work where you are, I think it seems clear that you should probably leave your current firm - this is likely why you were interviewing in the first place. However, you don’t have to take the new offer you have. Keep in mind bough that the culture could surprise you, would suggest you try to talk to more people if you’re still unsure. You need to identify the job/type of company you want, and determine if you can get it from your current firm in the next year or whether this new job will help you get there.
I think the answer depends on where you are in your life. 5-7 years ago I would say jump ship and paper chase. Now, two kids later, stability and enjoyment (culture) in the workplace means a lot more.
