Would this be fine for work holiday party? First one ever for me out of college. Trying to repurpose some old dresses vs buying a new one

Cute dress that is 100% inappropriate for a work-related event. Google “work holiday party dress” to get ideas and then go buy a new one (the Rack, Saks Off Fifth, Lulu’s, etc are all good economical options) borrow one from a friend, go to Rent The Runway…but don’t wear this.

like

Hey fellow Bainie! I very much respect trying to repurpose old dresses. Unfortunately this will be a hard one to use at our party without using a tank / bodysuit underneath. Currently Lulus has a lot a lot of great deals going on right now- I just got my holiday party dress for $50. I highly recommend trying out that site for an affordable but chic dress

OMG no, you cannot wear something that low cut in front of coworkers

like

OP- yes, still bad!

like

Throw a lacy cami under it and it works great!

like

The cami is a good idea! Also this dress is gorgeous and I am jealous that you own it and I do not.

like

Oof. It still surprises me how little common sense some can have… Just because it’s a fancy event doesn’t mean you ignore the dress code completely

like

A3 is absolutely correct. If your feelings are so fragile that you can’t handle an honest answer to a question you post in a public forum, that’s a “you” problem, not a “them” problem.

Pretty dress but you can’t. You’d be better off going in an outfit you’d wear to the office.

like

Honestly, you’d be better off investing in a modest formal dress. You’ll have a lot of functions so it will be good for you to have something festive but conservative on hand. You can also try Rent the Runway!

like

I’ve also paid like 30-50 for RTR before! It’s definitely affordable

like

Great dress for an event that is non-work. Bad idea for any work event. When in doubt, err on the side of more classic and conservative but stylish for work events. Cleavage is a thing I’d steer clear of, regardless of cup size. 🙂

like

The v cut seems a bit too low for me personally. Pretty dress otherwise!

like

That is too low cut for a work event especially if one is larger chested

like

Too low; can you add a lacy bandeau to cover up more? Or just borrow a new dress from a friend My office holiday party sees some risqué attire each year but I still wouldn’t wear this

like

Since you are pretty flat chested, I think it *could* be okay… I’ve seen someone wear a super low cut dress like that once to a holiday party but it had a mesh insert which helped. Could you add a mesh bodysuit underneath?

likesmart

Oh this is a very good idea! I do have a mesh tank lying around

like

Straight up, no.

like

I have big boobs and have worn low cut dresses. Won’t do it now lol I don’t know what I was thinking

likefunny

Others have mentioned too low cut, I’d also say too long/open on bottom.

like

Meh - what Bain office are you in? Ours is quite lax on dress code for office holiday parties, people get quite trendy at ours. I would just put a body suit underneath to cover up chest a bit more to play it safe / not deal with judgment from haters

like

I agree with those that said to add some sort of under shirt/top to make the v cut more manageable

like

No.

like

Only if you wear something underneath that cuts straight across to cut down on cleavage

It’s funny, during the summer there was a thread about open toed shoes in the office and a large percentage of the comments mentioned that it was unprofessional to wear them the work. The dress is meant to have a open neck which is the first thing people eyes will be drawn to, even if you are tall or short. I would choose another dress.

Thoughts on holidays… At Accenture US we now have 2 “culture days” which can be used like PTO. We get off Christmas, thanksgiving, etc. as normal holidays. Why couldn’t companies issue all holidays as “culture days” and allow employees to choose which days to use them on? Example: if their are 9 holidays (thanksgiving, x-mas, New Years, etc.) why not just make them “culture days” and allow people to choose when they use them?

PTO is not the solution to feeling burned out, especially if that feeling intensifies 10x when you return.

I work in a lean team. When it’s me + NSP + a senior partner on the deal, the senior partner refuses to speak to me directly and my work would go up the chain of command. The NSP + senior partner would discuss the rationale for certain positions in the key docs w/o explaining to me or speak to clients directly w/o me, and I’d be asked to send out the revised draft to the opp counsel. When I get calls from opp counsel on tougher points in the drafts, I’m not really able to answer. Is this normal?

Anyone not looking forward to Black History Month? It’s has become so performative that I honestly ignore it. It’s been co-opted by corporations and everyone else to virtue signal and pay lip-service to the community. I celebrate my history and culture every day.
