Have you started looking at opportunities in Chicago? Honestly, it's hard to learn & grow as a person in a toxic environment, so you probably want to find something else ASAP so that you can continue to grow.
Yes, I’ve been applying for about 2 months now. I had one opportunity earlier this month where I was down to the final round but I was ghosted by hiring manager. Which is odd bc they’re a really good company. I started looking at agency roles and messaging my college alumni for opportunities.
You have quite a few digital skills so it might be worth to take a look into some freelance jobs online. Platforms like Upwork are always teeming with job opportunities for SEO and other marketing services and the pay is pretty good even for entry levels. Might be worth a look
Best of luck! You might have to start with a short-term low paying-job just to get some momentum but once you get that first project you should be able to slowly ramp up your rates. If you have any samples to add to your UW portfolio that'll go a long way
Go go go and save and work somewhere else. You will learn about different work environments and you may get a better skillset from working in a marketing / digital agency.
You can always do some work with some indie labels or groups based in Chicago in your down time.
100% agree - it's not worth staying in a role that isn't paying you enough. Hopefully you're able to find something soon!
You could make use of your young potwntial literally anywhere else. Don't force yourself to stay just to build experience. Have you considered doing freelance work while you're still scouting? You still have so much ahead of you. Good luck!
Thank you all for being kind and gracious, I’ve starting applying to freelance gigs and building out a website with my portfolio. Already looking at moving back home and I’m contacting alumni working at agencies. Thanks!!!
Thank you! Best of luck to you too.
There’s a lot of pressure to stay for “experience” but I also need to be paid enough to live.
