These seems like incredibly personal questions that should be calibrated against your risk tolerance
+1
First question is a personal one based on risk tolerance.
Second question - I would definitely not do this. Great that you’re at another top fund & likely means you have a good chance, but with how competitive these roles are it is not even close to guaranteed.
IMHO you should try and move up the 2nd interview timeline and push back the deadline to accept the first offer - try and put yourself in a position to choose between two real offers
First thing to do is to make personal decision on role you’d take if you had both offers in hand
It definitely offer 2 - then I would first go to them, tell them you have a different time sensitive offer but you want to go to firm 2 and would appreciate if they could advance the interview timeline
Then I would go to firm 1 and ask for some extra time to speak to family, decide, etc. how much you ask for depends on how much time they initially gave you, your read of how accommodating they are etc.
Broadly I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask firm 1 for 1-2 weeks to decide, and firm 2 to finish your interview process in 1-2 weeks
Nothing is ever guaranteed fwiw. That said, if you’re able to get a job at a marquis HF, one could argue that you’ll likely be able to place into another without issue
Former. Burnout is real
Me, I’d take the first. No to 2nd question.
