Would you consider turning down full MBA sponsorship from a "Tier 2" Strategy Firm to jump to MBB?

Lol a couple people I knew in business school did this. I remain completely baffled as to why people are dropping $250k all-in to go to business school just to move from S&/Deloitte to MBB... If you mean you have the opp to go straight to MBB from your current firm without going to business school that would be different

It’s pretty easy to get an interview at MBB from a T2. Getting a MBA will not necessarily enable you to perform any better on the interviews, which is the bar to get the job.

Can you ask the HR if the firm would sponsor your 2nd year of MBA?

If your sponsorship package gets paid to you and not directly to the school, it will be taxed at ~50%. I assume it also doesn’t cover living expenses, just tuition. You’re likely to make up that ~70k pretty quick in bonus money, provided you can last a few years in MBB. I made the jump and find the work a lot more frustrating and boring TBH.

I actually thought this was pretty worth it, from a 10-years later POV. L

You can probably get 2nd year tuition covered by MBB when you sign. So then, yes definitely. If it’s only about the cash?

Maybe I misread OP, if the option is to go to MBB as undergrad hire equivalent or get an MBA then they will pay If you are an MBA hire no sponsorship

Do you have the MBB offer?

tell your tier 2 to sponsor you get the MBB job tell your firm that you are out

You have to payback your sponsorship if you don’t stay for like 2-3 years after school

If you’re at a tier 2, why not try to apply for MBB and lateral in? Not saying it’s easy but also definitely not impossible

Whats your long term goal? If you’re already in Bschool, you really got to think about why you want to leave the sponsorship. Thats a no for me personally. If its pre-mba, you don’t care for an mba (some of the mbbs dont offer sponsorships for experienced hires), and you’re not doing work at your current firm that mbb is doing or doing more of, then that makes more sense.

Been working on mostly (about 70%) public sector policy and strategy at Big 4 for most of my career. Often go up against MBB on RFPs and have a decent win rate. Would I be too senior to come in as a lateral hire? I guess it’s all about client networks at this level, and being government, it’s locationally dependent - so which markets have need?
