Short answer is yes.
Longer answer is negotiate it upfront if its not in their standard pto policy. If they aren’t willing to honor it I’d personally make it clear I would consider the offer again in 7-8 months after my leave

I wouldn’t necessarily “expect” it, especially if they don’t offer that much parental leave normally. But, totally reasonable to ask/negotiate for it.
Yeah should probably have phrased it differently, more so question was would it be a reasonable ask during negotiation. Appreciate the input!
Expect? No. Negotiate? Sure.
This did not work for me, but I was able to push my start date out further.
Let me know how your negotiation goes! I need to take notes.
I would assume you would not qualify for parental leave if you were not employed there at the time the child was born, adopted or fostered.
You could always apply for extended leave for that purpose, but I’d be surprised if it would be eligible specifically under the banner of a firm’s parental leave policy.
Yeah I think that’s the point - I know I likely wouldn’t be eligible per the policy, but thinking if they liked me enough they might give me the time
