Would you guys rather pick driving your own car, rent a car or taking a plane when traveling to client location that’s on the next state over? 2 hour driving vs 4 hour flight

Definitely not a flight, personally. That's like 6 hours door to door vs 2 hours door to door and the option to leave when I want. I'd only do this if I was close to status for other projects. If I had a car that was more than 5 years old, I'd probably just drive and take the mileage reimbursement to save up for a new car. I do this for a 1.5 hour drive and like not having to deal with a rental each week. For a newer car i would probably go with a rental.

If you can bill for your travel time and you want/need the utilization credit, fly. Otherwise, your time is too valuable to donate; rent a car. Don’t drive your own car. If any damage occurs, like something on the road kicks up and cracks the windshield (which happened to me a couple weeks ago), you have to deal with that hassle on your own dime and own time.

I usually drive if it's 4 hours or less. This is especially great on Thursdays, when weather delays flights. Prefer rental over personal car

Monthly rental an option? 4 days I usually would get the weekly rate from Avis back in the day and sometimes extended it through the weekend as there was no charge anyways. If you could extend a monthly instead of four separate weekly rates and having to deal with picking up a rental each week that seems like the best option.

OP I'm really confused. Where in the NYC area are you coming from that it takes 1.5 hours to get to Philly during a workday? I have done that commute from Central NJ and it usually takes around 2 hours if I'm leaving around 6-7am. I can make it in about 70 mins if I'm going down at like 8pm on a Sunday night. In any case, I think people have given you a lot of options. And many of the pros and cons of each. Obviously you're not going to give us the specifics of where you live or where your client is, so up to you to explore your options.

Drive personal car, that mileage adds up!

You are all smoking crack! Definitely drive your personal vehicle! I was on a long-term project where I drove 400 miles round trip each week for 1.5 years. After all fuel/maintenance expenses I made $14,000 of pure untaxed profit.

@M2 - My first comment was in jest, apologies if you were offended. I was attempting to shock and awe the audience into understanding that you can make some serious untaxed money driving your personal vehicle (and it’s generally cheaper for the firm). I spent time analyzing the variables that applied to my situation before committing to driving and I would expect any consultant to do the same.

Rental. Not going to put additional wear and tear on my car

I'd drive, New car or old. Make sure you figure out all the tolls, 95 is loaded with them. Also keep track of the miles around town. I used to do this between DC and Boonyville NJ. The miles add up around town. I liked having my car instead of a stripper rental.

Drive, and would definitely rent a car instead of using my personal car. That distance would destroy my lease agreement mileage wise

Smoking crack because we choose not to put mileage on our own personal vehicles? No. If your preference is to drive your own vehicle that's yours as not everyone wants the wear and tear on a vehicle or have to deal with potential issues that may arise from that wear and tear. Cheers. 🚘

Long story short: I work for a small healthcare consulting firm. Since COVID, I was going to the office once a week, every Wednesday. Today, I have put on my 2 weeks because I accepted an offer from a big 4. During my last 2 weeks, I had planned to see my family for the first week, and go to the office on my final week. Also today, my boss asks me to come in the office everyday next week. Should I say I don’t feel comfortable and just don’t go?What’s the worst it happen? Get fired lol
