Would you hire someone who failed to get a return offer from her MBA summer intern at a top consultancy?

If other things are fine, sure. They could've just not had headcount

like

yes, although I would have a conversation about why they didn't get a return offer. the thoughtfulness of the reply is what I would be looking to hear, as well as the lessons that they took from the situation.

like

if it was performance, I would be looking for them to talk about the situation and what they would do differently.

OP - one thing to remember is that in consulting, teams can make or break you, and this is especially true as an MBA intern where you’re expected to hit the ground running. I do a lot of interviews for both MBA and Undergrad hiring and while not ideal, it’s not unheard of to see it on a CV. SM1 is right, articulating clearly what you learnt from it, and a very very clearly firm specific reason as to why you’re giving it another go at XYZ firm, you’ll be okay but know that your cases and other behavioural elements need to be airtight. End of the day we are all human and occasionally things go pear shaped.

like

Sure, there are a lot of factors that go into an offer- the practice they interned with, the ppl involved in reviewing them, who they were competing against for the few spots etc. I’ve seen perfectly good candidates not get an offer, but they were by all means very much hirable.

like

Yes. My brother interned at PWC and was not given an offer. He then received offers from BCG, McKinsey, and Deloitte.

like

How did he explain to McKinsey bcg and Deloitte why he did not receive an offer from pwc? I am interested in this

Be prepared to speak about it without getting defensive. As other people have said, there are a lot of reasons for it not working out. If you get an interview, the company is open to giving you a shot.

You don’t have to tell anyone you didn’t get a return offer. You just have to say it wasn’t a good fit.

And you don’t have to say you didn’t get a return offer. You just have to say it was an interesting experience, but you didn’t think it was a good long term fit.

Hi I am having some trouble on choosing between Deloitte and PwC for a 2022 winter internship. Some pros for Deloitte include being the largest firm, and the promotion to senior being 2 years opposed to 3 at PwC. Additionally, Deloitte offers a pension and has Deloitte university. The pros of PwC include a gym in the office and a younger work force. They also give me much less of a “corporate” feel and seem to offer more flexibility. I’m wondering if anyone could give me any advice on deciding?

Honest question. What would have happened if I reneged on my post-internship offer from KPMG to join PwC? I'm full of regret right now.
