No dont take the demotion, trust in what you bring to table. You could argue that they could evaluate your path to manager instead.

I've seen people come from smaller firms and truth is they are not as good as a good homegrown people. Its natural. There is a lot to learn. Coming in as a senior might just be too hard if you not excellent.
Agree with this, but would also say it depends whether you want to be there long term. If long term, would say go for experienced associate. If not, push for senior.
Absolutely not. Big 4 is not all that amazing as they promote/brainwash it to be. Guaranteed you have a more diverse and well-rounded background coming from top 10 firm than any new senior at that Big 4. Is it EY btw? They tried to demote me once too.

This has not been my experience. They really are below avg. The best ones were avg.
Only if you are moving into a different lines of service. Eg Audit -> FDD
Not from a top 10 firm, no. I moved from a top 20 to PwC and didn’t lose credited experience.
I think it depends on a variety of factors, but I wouldn't since I like to show the positive career progression upwards. However, if you were still getting a solid increase in compensation moving into the new role (despite the lower title) then I think it might not matter as much. At the end of the day, you just got to be able to explain why you made your move to future employers if they ask you about it.

I personally wouldn’t, but it depends on the position too. Like if the company promotes often, and you’re likely to be promoted to senior, manager etc, then I probably would
Don’t leave for demotion. Counter they’ll most likely accept
If it’s more pay who cares about title
If you are going for a role that you really like and there is little to no pay cut, then I’d go for it
Why get a pay cut? Don’t take it. You know your value and your experience. Don’t undersell yourself. So many people in B4 that don’t have your experience too. Sell yourself better maybe
So I was in the exact same position as you and took a demotion but made sure I still got a pay increase. In hindsight it was the best thing I could have done as I dropped to a senior from manager but when I made manager a year later at big4 I got the promotion bonus along with a good raise and regular bonus.
FWIW I got hired as a senior when IMO, given skill level I should have been hired as an experienced associate. I was really transparent in the interview process but got hired as a senior anyway since “I would learn” and “by the time I got to manager my weaknesses in XYZ would not matter.” Fast forward 2 years and I am getting pushed out of the firm on PIP for the exact concerns I expressed when I was hired and onboarded. On the bright side I got a better salary for two years? Ur situation might be different but thought I would share my experience. For more context, I was going into a new line of service.
