Would you leave Big 4 for Protiviti or similar boutique shop? Will exit opps be any different or will it be harder to come back to Big 4?

Our bread and butter is internal audit. Our tech consulting practice is growing quite quickly as well. If you’re looking for strategy work, look elsewhere. The pay is a bit less than Big 4, but I’ve never had to work over 45 hours if I don’t want to. I travel 100% by choice, but there are a lot of people in my office that only do local projects. Benefits are pretty average. Overall I like it here, but I do wish we had more prestige

Protiviti no. A boutique that is very focused in the field I’m interested in (i.e. Korn Ferry) - yes

No, unless you want to specialise deeply in risk

Yes, PRO is growing by DDs and paying above market at least in non-high cost cities.

M1 it’s pretty common to receive a 20% bump when switching between firms. My senior manager received a 40% bump when he joined EY. Percentage doesn’t matter, it’s whether your new base is on par with the market that matters. My friends who received entry level offers from Protiviti were paid about 10k below big 4 and 2/3 have gone to other firms in less than one year. But I agree that some domains within Protiviti might get paid more. Hard to tell without data points.

I left the big 4 for PRO recently. Received a 25% bump. I also rarely travel except for day trips to make calls on contacts at a couple of prospect clients. I am very happy now! I see my kids every night and have traded in lonely hotel nights to banging my wife every night. The only annoying thing is I am actually having to drive in traffic and put miles on my car. This changes from client to client.

Many significant contributors took 20% pay cut AND forced to take a non-paid day off every week. Comes out to a 40% cut. Cannot use PTO. Partners took 20% cut. Extremely unfair.
