Similar enough situation currently. I chose the smaller firm to better align with and prioritize what I want for my personal life (I have a 4 year old and a 10 month old). Walked away from a top 20 CPA firm (would have made partner in 2-3 years), more of a grind, higher possible earning potential for a niche market CPA firm, less hours and less stress, but still comfortable salary, likely 4-5 years to partner.

Interviewed with Company1 recruiter last week. Will meet hiring manager next week (on vacation this week), but would still need to interview w ECD. And see if there’s an offer, work is interesting, work/life balance and benefits are said to be terrific.

Today I interviewed with Company2 ECD today and they are interested. On Glassdoor, their work/life and benefits aren’t so great. How do I put off Company2 so I can find out if Company1 makes me an offer?

Hi All, I am 26 and torn between two jobs. Looking to switch out of FP&A and not sure which route to pursue since both are pretty different (Current offer for job A has a deadline)

Job A:
SFA at an MBB working in commercial finance (not FP&A but different internal finance function i.e strategic). High level exposure, great network opportunities and solid comp. ~$130k.
Job B:
Portfolio analyst for a well known bank in commercial lending. Not 100% about comp. But waiting for offer to come in.

I've worked as an HR Generalist and Business Partner for over 15 years, and I'm ready to do something else. I have some pretty significant experience in compensation and I'd like to pivot into a role that's focused there. I know there are some certifications available through SHRM and World at Work - any thoughts from those in Comp whether these would compliment hands on work experience and if they might improve my chances of getting noticed for a role in Comp?

Making 105k base in DC, what is a fair salary to ask for from an NYC mid-sized startup that would take into account the HCOL, risk of a new job, and the new responsibilities?

I don’t feel I’m being paid what I deserve and don’t expect the amount of my upcoming promotion/salary will be what I hope it will be, but I don’t want to leave my company. Does getting an offer elsewhere to receive a counter offer cause bad blood? Should I avoid that practice?

Interviewing with other B4. Interviews with leadership went well. Recruiter came back and said she needs to “work on the approvals for an offer and would like to understand your salary expectation.” Going in should I ask her the range for that level? Is it odd she needs to get approvals for a level they’re hiring for? Worried she may not be serious or lowballing.
