How does that incentive a staff or senior who has no role in getting new clients/billing existing clients?

Define big raises and similar raises? Unless the big raises truly dwarf the similar raises time value of getting the guaranteed money might outweigh the larger but less certain size.

I think compensation below partner is tied to market studies, not firm performance (except the bonus pool component)

As a staff I would like raises to be based totally on my own work and if the firm has a bad year the partners eat it.

RSM 1 probably - which is basically implicit collusion. The firms all find out what each level everywhere pays and then they stay “competitive” meaning within that range. That way nobody ever gets a real wage increase!

It makes a lot more sense to have raises consistent with the firms profits. Provides incentive for the entire team to do well each year rather than “oh well I’m just gonna get 3% no matter what I do”.

Just wondering - Do coaches have to pay from their pockets for promoting their coachee? My coach sounds soo negative irrespective of my Manager supporting the promotion decision. Despite my milestone year , good scatterplot and utilisation my coach is still saying at 3.5 years it's difficult to get promotion from analyst to Consultant. I fail to understand the logic behind it where Deloitte is recruiting folks with 3+ YOE as consultant.

Need some advise. I'm considering switching firms. I am underpaid and benefits are not competitive at all at this firm. And I doubt promotion at the end of the year will get me to a decent pay rate. I want to do an MBA in the next 2 years. I’m currently up for Senior consultant promotion but I don’t think I can make good money in consulting till I become Partner. My boyfriend isn’t supportive of this decision. He believes it will alter our plans (marriage, children etc). He also thinks immigration will be a big hassle since I’ve already used my 3 years of OPT. What should I do?

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person in advertising who isn't fiercely competitive. I just wanna make a decent living, work hard but not too hard, spend time with my husband and my kid, do some good work... Meanwhile everyone I know through work is constantly gunning for a promotion or moving on. It works for them, but it's not my game. Anyone else ever feel this way? I wanna find my people.

Just finished my compensation meeting at work, got my promo and a really nice raise that pushed me into the six figure club. If you had asked me 5 years ago if I'd ever be making this much money or be having this much success I would have laughed. My wife is super happy for me and has been a big support but I'm secretly starting to resent the fact I settled for her. If I had known I could do this well in life I would have waited and done so much better than her 😕
