Would you rather have a really early start time and get out early or have a later start but more time in the morning?

Well let’s not make this about us! Research says that young children are morning people and adolescent /teens are not. Therefore school start times should be based on that! Earlier for the young and later for the teens.

I prefer early starts for myself but I know that research shows that kids do better with later starts. I drive an hour to get to my school so start time makes a huge difference when it comes to appointments and I end up having to take quite a bit of time off because I can’t get later ones.

how about late start and early release? just kidding. I'm not a morning person and neither are my high school kids. It is nice to get out before rush hour, though.

Later start!

Early start for me.

Later start

Later start

Later start. I tutor and stay unti l 6 or 630 anyway. But even an 8:45 start would be helpful as opposed to 7:30. As long as I still get prep time and we get compensated for any after school activities.

My school has early out but my kids have to stay because of the bus so I don’t get to have it anyway

I’ve done both and I like the early start

I have worked in two different counties, one with an early start time and one with a late start time. I prefer the earlier start time because school gets out earlier and you still have time for appointments. When you stay late you usually have to do things on the weekend, which many doctor’s and dentist’s offices are closed. Therefore, you have to make sub plans, for weekday appointments, which the sub may not show. That places a burden on your colleagues because they may have to split or cover your classes. And, yes, this is coming from someone who is not a morning person.

Late start!

We start at 9 and end at 415. I'd love an hour earlier

Personally early start but it really makes a difference for my students (minority; lower income) when we start later. We had bad weather delays last year and got started late. No taffies and better attitudes.
